Breathing meditation is a deceptively simple form of meditation that is easy and quick to learn. Yoga philosophy states that breath is life, so control of the breath leads to control of your life. We do it all day every day, but how often do you take any notice of your breathing?

Most people think of meditation being a part of yoga class but many cultures, religions and philosophies have utilized the benefits that you get from meditation to get a more balanced view of life and the order that is often obscured from our sight.

Christian priests, martial artists the world over and Amazonian tribesmen have all used meditation for hundreds if not thousands of years. As you might imagine there’s an enormous amount of different techniques and variations in how to meditate, but the easiest form is probably breathing meditation. This is the quickest and easiest way to get the benefits of meditation in next to no time.

Often teachers of meditation compare the mind to a monkey. Thoughts running around, leaping all over the place, never resting in one place for long and completely out of control. So how do we tame the monkey of our mind and get some calm?

Breathing meditation is really very simple as it involves something we all do everyday!). Start by breathing through your nose, and feel your lungs filling up with air, all the way to the bottom. Really focus on the feeling of the air as it flows through your nose and down your throat.

Basically you want to breath and stay aware of each part of your breath, as you breathe in, a brief pause of not breathing at all, and the breath flowing out. Just stay present and focused on this process for as long as feels comfortable.

There are so many and varied benefits to meditation, not only physical but mental as well. But very valuable, is that as you calm your mind, you unlock the dormant power to manifest your desires.

As you let go of all the unnecessary thoughts, you can focus your will on whatever it is that you’re after. Everything starts as a thought and the more uncluttered the mind, the more powerful the creative impulse. Each tiny change can have unknown effects. As you put something as seemingly insubstantial as a thought out into the universe, you set in motion a chain of events that, even though you can’t see it happening, works to bring you the very thing that you have focused on.

As you plant your intention, small actions can have a far reaching effect. A chance comment to a friend who then meets the very person that you need to get in touch with to realize your desire… the interconnectedness is an ongoing web of relationships that stretches from you to the other side of the world. Often you won't see it clearly, but if you stay focused you can catch glimpses of it working in your own life.

This is the reason you want to start learning breathing meditation. As you begin to realize the power of your thoughts and harness them, you will start to see that you are making choices every moment. How you react to a certain situation, how you treat people you meet, it’s all under your control. Every moment you choose to act for the highest good of yourself and also the whole world. As you heal your mind and body, you heal everyone around you.
