3 Security Considerations For Digital Signage In Un-Manned Locations.

With digital signage being the market leader in the advertising industry, it is being deployed in both manned and un-manned locations. Digital signage is normally safe in manned areas such as airports and in shopping malls, however un-manned areas are a totally different area as these locations sometimes attract some undesirable people. Below are three potential risk areas.

Theft risk.
Now when you have invested any money in a project, the last thing you want to find out is after the digital signage system as been installed some or all of the components including the LCD or plasma TV and media player have been stolen. Well worry no more, as there is a solution that protects LCD and plasma televisions when used in digital signage from being stolen, these are called LCD enclosures.

An LCD enclosure is the answer, however not all enclosures are built the same, for example one LCD enclosure manufacture has as their front line of defence installed two high security front access door locks. Basically without the key you cannot gain access to the inside of the unit to take the TV, however if (worse case scenario) someone did , they would then encounter the second line of defence which includes an inbuilt alarm that can send an SMS message to the digital signage network manager notifying them of the attack. The third line of defence is an anti theft mounting bracket is installed, once the TV is mounted to the bracket inside the enclosure, it is secured into position with a special tool, without this tool there is no way the TV can be removed from inside the enclosure.

Vandalism risk.
You have seen the vandalism at rail station and tube stations across the world, were items are either daubed with spray paint or smashed beyond repair. Unfortunately, the mentality behind vandalism is beyond anyone with any reasonable brain power, it seems if they cannot have it they smash it up so no one else can use or enjoy whatever they smash. Now for digital signage, this is a major issue as if a display gets damaged an engineer has to go to site to repair it and then there is the replacement costs.
Again an LCD enclosure offers protection from spray paint to stop people “tagging” the displays, as they units are manufactured from a heavy gauge steel that is fully welded providing maximum protection and can be powder coated in an anti graffiti coating. The robust construction of the units also protects from vandals throwing rocks at the displays. Whilst the viewing window is re-enforced and has a rear support frame behind to add additional support should the front of the unit encounter an attempted attack. As a side note the viewing window material alone is also bullet proof.Hacking risk.
We are all aware of the risk of cyber fraud and identity theft, not some of these people are who have used hacking techniques previously could use them to can access to the digital signage network, imagine the cost to a company if someone hacked into the wireless digital signage network and started broadcasting their own ads…the company’s public image would be damaged overnight. However one of the best ways to protect any wireless or wired device is to change all media player login and
