Want to become a book author? Want to write a book to promote your business? The 5 methods described here provide you a choice of quick, easy ways to assemble content—to write a book using methods that fit your needs and get you thinking about other content-creating possibilities. I've included sample titles that can also be used to suggest specific topics to write about, if you're looking for more ideas about subject matter for your book.

(1) Change the Expertise Level: Don't reinvent the wheel. You don't have to start from scratch to write your book. Get content from a book you've already written and tweak it by changing the expertise level. Pattern the choice and arrangement of subject matter like the original version.

Adapt one of these titles for your book:

(2) Transform a non-print series into a book: Gather the non-print materials you send out to clients, prospects, customers, others in your industry (e.g., CDs, DVDs, audiocassettes, videocassettes). Include materials sent out by others in your company. Solicit content from colleagues to put in your book, too.

Have the content from your non-print materials transcribed into text for your book. Combine the content to write a book, adding transitions and comments. Review and edit your book for consistency, duplications, etc.

Then, modify one of these sample titles for your own book:

Collected Highlights from SMM Newsletter Quarterly Bulletins

(3) Interview successes: Interview successful people in your field, located from industry publications, association membership lists. Learn more about them. Read the articles they've written. Visit their websites. Participate in their workshops. Let your interviewees tell their own stories.

Try one of these titles mentioning a success focus:

11 Principles for Success as a Physician's Assistant

(4) Accumulate quotations on a theme: Create a book of quotations on a theme or topic. Start collecting quotations, or solicit quotations from others. Compile them into a book.

Rewrite these samples to create a titillating title for your own non-fiction book:

(5) Solve an industry problem Choose a topic you've read about in an industry publication. Decide how you can solve the problem your target market is complaining about, a need they have—if there's enough information for a book.

Tweak one of these titles about solving a problem:
