One of the best spin-offs set within Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog storyline is the Sonic Universe comic book series, designed to highly expand the scopes of the fictional universe. This new series will deal with the various characters and their exploits throughout that fictional universe, including characters like Sonic, Knuckles and others. The first story arc is titled as Living Weapons and would have appearances from characters like Metal and Shadow Sonic. In the UK Sonic-The Comic and Sonic the Hedgehog series produced by Fleet way, produced also a comparable series of comics called "Sonic's World" for the later issues, it too expanded into the sonic universe following the various characters from the universe on individual quests which eventually merge into the original series on most occasions.

Sonic Universe is scheduled to be a monthly publication by Archie Comics paralleling its original comic Sonic the Hedgehog. First of the issues was successfully released on February 2009 filling the position of "second monthly comic", left vacant by the discontinuation of Sonic X.

TV Spin-offs
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was the very first animated series with Sonic as the central character but was spun-off into a more serious and dark series called Sonic the Hedgehog, in this universe, Sonic lived in the Knothole Village, there he is a part of the Freedom Fighters fighting to free Planet Mobius from the tyrraneous ruling of the evil Dr. Robotnik.

Another Spin-off was the widely popular Sonic Underground featuring the Sonic triplets; Manic and Sonia the hedgehogs, as well as their mother Queen Aleena, four of them were destined to fight and defeat Robotnik and freely rule Mobius as a "Council of Four". J. White voiced Sonic for the 3rd time alongwith voicing all the hedgehog siblings and Samuel Vincent providing the singing voice for Sonic.

Additionally, there was an anime Original Video Animation in Japan, which featuring Tails, Sonic, Robotnik, Metal Sonic and Knuckles. Sonic's voice was provided by famous Masami Kikuchi in Japanese, and Martin in English.

Sonic X was another anime where Sonic is teleported by Chaos Control to Earth, due to the Chaos Emeralds (but the concluding season occurs on Planet Mobius). He then befriends a young boy named Chris, and his aqua phobia is far pronounced; in the episode in which Sonic and friends went on a cruise, Sonic is in constant fear and panic and desperately looks for ways to escape. During this series, Sonic is again voiced by Kanemaru and by Jason Griffith.

'Sonic: Night of the Werehog' is an animated short film produced by Sega VE Animation Studio, set to have a release to coinciding with the release of the film Sonic Unleashed. In this film, Chip and Sonic enter a haunted house, and deal with 2 ghosts who are trying to scare them.

Amidst all these spin-offs and new series Sonic has never lost his originality and every new game is now more popular that the previous version. Sega has taken special care that not to make the character seem more commercialized and has put in extra efforts to maintain the comic series as well as the animated series to be as original, authentic and as close to the viewers as possible.
