You should also make yourself familiar with the general produce and the ability to spot quality produce in your local market. Beef, poultry, and fish should always be fresh, as well. Additionally, when preparing meat for a meal keep all meats refrigerated until using, any utensils you use with the meat or that come into contact with the meat should be cleaned with soap and water.
All meals that include meat should be cooked all the way through and to a safe cooking temperature. Cooking thermometers should help you check that your cooked foods have reached a temperature of at least 140 F. Some foods won't be heated, but do need to be kept at 40 degrees F if they are foods which are typically chilled.

Knowing this, you probably agree that it is an important cooking suggestion to keep your kitchen stocked with items that help you make dishes quickly and efficiently. What exactly you need depends on what kinds of dishes you want to prepare, but knives, pots, pans, and measuring cups are standard, and most dishes require the use of a blender or a food processor as well.
Many people make the mistake of associating low fat cooking with being bland, tasteless. However, it has been proved over and over again that low fat dishes can be made in a way that makes them colorful, vibrant, and delicious. Simply think out your dishes carefully before you prepare them, and then use a lot of fresh spices, olive oil and herbs to emphasize the taste. It's important to choose lean cuts of beef and pork, and to use the least amount of oil as you can. You can reduce the amount of fat your meals have, as well as the amount of calories, but substituting chicken, turkey, and fish instead of beef or pork.
