A Weekend's Skiing in France

With yet another damp and miserable summer coming to an end it may be time to start planning your next holiday. Perhaps you fancy an adventure filled city getaway in the Autumn or a winter break to stock up on Christmas presents? You might even just want to start planning next year's summer holiday so that day dreaming of sandy beaches and colourful cocktails can help you through the next few months. For winter breaks there are few experiences more festive than a ski holiday, your time will be consumed with snow, roaring fires and an abundance of apr?s ski entertainment.

You can find outstanding ski resorts all over the world with renowned resorts in Canada, Italy and North America. However, France is home to some of the most diverse and impressive ski resorts in the world offering visitors varied slopes and runs to suit every skill level and a vibrant apr?s ski scene.

Chamonix ski resort is located in France and is currently one of the largest and most varied mountain resorts in the Alps. Chamonix boasts an excellent nightlife complete with numerous bars and clubs to keep you entertained into the small hours and an extensive choice of cafes, restaurants and shops to enjoy.

Chamonix is just an hours drive from Geneva making it ideal for shorter ski holidays and weekends away. Although the resort is not the largest in Eurupe it is home to Europe's highest ski-able peak and with an altitude of close to 4000 metres snow can almost be guaranteed. Chamonix provides entertainment for various gropus of people whether families or couples, skiiers or non-skiiers.

Meribel ski resort is also located in France and although it is larger than Chamonix it retains the same quaint, traditional feel. The resort offers holiday makers plenty to keep them occupied during their stay with an abundance of bars, restaurants and shopping opportunities. Meribel is a pretty Savoyard ski resort with stunning views over the 3 huge valleys that have made it a popular destination for skiiers all over the world.

The skiing and snowboarding opportunities at Meribel are varied and there is something to accommodate all skill levels. Intermediate and more advanced skiiers will enjoy the steeper and faster skiing up at Val Thorens to the famous 76km circuit and beginners and those who are not so confident can enjoy less daunting slopes within the resort. After Morzine-Avoriaz, Meribel is the 2nd largest ski area in the world boasting 3 valleys offering well in excess of 640 kms of pisted runs.

Morzine is a long-established French resort, popular for its stunning ladscapes, laid-back traditional atmosphere and gentle tree-filled slopes. Morzine neighbours the lively and diverse resorts of Avoriaz, Chatel and Les Gets and combined the Morzine-Avoriaz resort represents the largest ski area in the world. Morzine is equipped with numerous slopes and runs such as funparks, a halfpipe and a Stash run in addition to direct links to Avoriaz's Portes du Soleil circuit.
