Avodart – A Revolution in the Field of Benign Prostate Hypertrophy

AVODART is used to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention (AUR) and prostate surgery. AUR may need operation. Here the prostate is become so big that it completely obstructs urine coming from the bladder. Women and children should not take this drug. Women who are or could become pregnant should not handle it due to the prospective risk of a specific birth defect. Do not donate blood until at least 6 months after stopping this medicine. This drug is different from other prostate medicines as it treats the cause of the disease, not just the symptoms.

How Avodart Makes Treatment
Avodart works by shrinking the quantity of the male hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) that leads to the minimization an enlarged prostate. The smaller prostate gives less pressure on the urethra, which tends to treat inconvenient urinary symptoms.

In some cases by targeting DHT, avodart starts to minimize the size of the prostate in just one month. It may take three to six months to see development in symptoms. Through lessening the prostate, over time, it reduces the risk of calling for prostate surgery. Making treatment with avodart recommends both a decline in prostate size and lasting symptom development for up to 4 years.
Side effects

The use of this drug can bring many side effects, including sexual side effects and swelling or tenderness of the breast, occur infrequently. In some cases, men have less problems and signs after 3 months of treatment with this. But it needs a treatment period of at least 6 months to see if the drug will work for you.
There are some genitourinary side effects including impotence (up to 4.7%), decreased libido (up to 3.0%), ejaculation disorders (up to 1.4%), and gynecomastia (up to 1.1%) have also been reported.

According to a report after the first 6 months of treatment, the incidence of inception of impotence, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders, or gynecomastia was less than 1%. The unfavorable event profile for one two year study (n=677) stated that the commencement of drug-related events was lower during the second year of treatment compared with the first , apart from for gynecomastia which was reported at 1% during the first year and 2 % during the second year.

Hypersensitivity side effects
Hypersensitivity side effects have been reported including allergic reactions such as angioedema, rash, pruritus, urticaria, and localized edema. Serious skin reactions have been reported during postmarketing experience.
