Even today, travellers remain spellbound by Bali's almost peerless ability to surpass the expectations of its visitors.
Bali is a landscape ablaze with colour, dominated by lush green rice terraces and divided by a string of impressive towering volcanoes which traverse its centre. Considered locally to be the property of the Gods, it is a sacred land , handed down in trust from one generation to the next.
Bali is a truly magical and enchanting island blessed with excellent volcanic sandy beaches, thousands of temples and stunningly beautiful scenery.
Its inhabitants are a friendly, easy-going people who, despite the potentially damaging influences of international tourism, have passionately preserved their unique Hindu Darma religion. Centuries old traditions have been maintained through a totally unique expression of art, dance, sculpture, ceremony, celebration and spectacular religious ritual.
Bali's close neighbour, the relatively untouched island of Lombok, lies just a short 25 minute flight east from Denpasar. Lombok offers exceptional charm, romance and seclusion with unspoilt beaches lapped by warm emerald seas. It is often claimed that, whilst the journey time to Lombok may only be 25 minutes, Lombok is actually about 25 years behind its neighbour in tourism terms. This is all goes to reinforce its unique attraction making Lombok a highly recommended 'life in the slow lane' option.

BALI HIGHLIGHTS:
JIMBARAN: Located just south of Kuta and the airport, the crescent-shaped beach at Jimbaran Bay is one of the finest in Bali. The area is popular for its many beach restaurants, or 'warung', offering a huge range of freshly caught local seafood.
SEMINYAK: Located to the north of Kuta and Legian, Seminyak is Bali's nightlife centre. Dozens of popular bars, restaurants, shops and galleries line the streets, frequented by locals, tourists and ex-pats in their droves.
TANAH LOT: Home to the ever-popular and ever-busy sea temple of Purah Tanah Lot, the most photographed temple in Bali. The views from the nearby Le Meridien Nirwana hotel are quite dramatic, particularly at sunset.
SANUR: The site of Bali's first high rise hotel and now one of Bali's more relaxed resorts. Located on the eastern side of the island facing Nusa Penida, Sanur sports a popular and scenic beach-side walkway and some excellent easy-going bars and restaurants.
NUSA DUA/TANJUNG BENOA: Nusa Dua is a purpose built and immaculately manicured haven housing a series of deluxe hotels and resorts. Its near neighbour, Tanjung Benoa, occupies a narrow peninsula to the north of Nusa Dua. It is notable for its restaurants including the famous Bumbu Bali.
UBUD: Covering a large inland area about one hour north of the southern resort areas, Ubud is the epi-centre for art and culture in Bali. Famous for its street markets, galleries, woodcarvers, painters, bars and caf?s and its numerous 'boutique' style resorts, Ubud is becoming increasingly popular as a long-stay destination in its own right.

BALI - GENERAL INFORMATION
PASSPORTS AND VISAS
British passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival in the country at a small charge payable in US dollars, variable dependent upon length of stay.

VACCINATIONS AND HEALTH
Yellow fever immunisation essential if arriving from an infected area. Precautions against hepatitis A, tetanus, typhoid and polio recommended. Malaria precautions should be considered, although main cities and resort destinations such as Bali and Lombok are not generally at risk. Please consult your GP for up to date information.
CURRENCY
Rupiah (idr) = 100 Sen. Major credit cards accepted. US dollar traveller's cheques are the most widely accepted. ATM facilities available in major urban areas.
CLIMATE
Indonesia's climate has wide variations due to its considerable size and extensive latitude. The islands of Bali and Lombok enjoy and even year round climate with temperatures in the low to mid 30's C. Both are subject to the northern monsoon which brings higher rainfall and humidity to the islands from December to March. May to October are less humid with frequent clear and sunny days.
TIPPING AND BARGAINING
Tipping is at the individuals discretion. 10% is acceptable for good service. Bargaining for souvenirs and artefacts is essential.
