Barbie have become the star of the fashion world of dolls for almost 50 years since Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie gave her debut. But how did Barbie have managed her career as the world’s most popular doll?
You might think that you are too old to know about Barbie®, but Barbie®, had become part of every woman’s life since her debut in in 1959, and like any living Artists or Stars, any issues and gossips about her would surely intrigue anyone.

Who is Barbie® anyway?

Barbie’s whole name is is Barbara Millicent Roberts. In the 1960s, her parents’ names are given as George and Margaret Roberts from the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin. Barbie attended Willows High School and Manhattan International High School in New York City, based on the real-life Stuyvesant High School. She has romantic relationship with her man Ken (Ken Carson), who first appeared in 1961.

Almost unambiguously for a toy fashion doll, Barbie has become a cultural icon and has been given honors that are rare in the toy world. In 1974 a section of Times Square in New York City was renamed Barbie Boulevard for a week, while in 1985 the artist Andy Warhol created a painting of Barbie.

Not only Barbie has been popular among kids because of her long hair and fashionista life, but Barbie have also a series of product lines for her avid fans. Mattel even released a collector’s edition, for those who have been young ones and continue to love Barbie, in the late years.
Recently, Barbie faced an ultimate trial of her life when MGA Entertainment launched the Bratz range of dolls in 2001, an act that would give Barbie her first serious rivalry in the fashion doll market. The 2004 sales figures implies that Barbie and the Bratz are having a stiff competition in winning the hearts of girls in the world.

The continuous struggle

The creation of Barbie by Mattels have become part of the living tradition such that you can make a genuine smile from an innocent child of having to own a Barbie® doll. And despite heavy competition and court struggles ( Mattels is suing MGA Entertainment of Bratz for copyright infringement), Barbie will continue to win the hearts of every girl not only in the United Kingdom but the world.
