Benefits not Normally Associated with Training

The value of an investment is often determined by the amount of benefits that it offers to the individual or institution that made the investment. These benefits are set against a list of needs or deficiencies that have been determined as things that can provide a great improvement for the one that made the investment. In companies and corporations, these are usually things that can greatly benefit overall output by directly benefiting the staff or work force of the company, which usually translates into either new equipment to make operations and office automation more efficient, or improvements that are done on the work force themselves, which usually comes in the form of trainings. These trainings specifically target the human component of the company by seeking to improve the way they work, making for better and faster output. The human component, however, being human, cannot always be quantified into statistical figures that pertain only to total output and statistical values that relate only to work. Being human, there exists a factor that is often overlooked by the typical corporation as matters that have no bearing on the everyday operation of the business, that of the unseen human factors that will inevitably affect the way a person works everyday, regardless of their talent or skill. This unseen human factor, in fact, is the reason why some members of the work force, often seen as displaying great potential, could suddenly provide an output that is less than satisfactory. This is why the training department of corporations now makes use of training strategies and techniques that also target the unseen human component in providing enhancements to the work force. This is done by making use of e learning solutions that provide not only seen benefits that are quite easily quantifiable, but some “unseen” benefits as well.

Quantifiable seen benefits are those that are mostly focused on by the management, primarily as statistical data they can analyze to determine if the company is doing well from a financial stand point, including:

• Projected or actual improvements in the sales figures
• Commendations or reviews from satisfied clients, customers, or business partners
• Quantifiable figures stating overall business environment improvement
• Recorded figures stating improved quality in output
• Annual report figures stating improved output
• Marked improvement in inter-office communication
• Higher rate of direct promotions in position
• Lower turnover rate attributed to people leaving

The unseen benefits provided by e learning can best be exemplified through the human component, as evidenced by the observable things not normally considered by the company as things that require the company’s attention. While not easily quantifiable into figures that may directly translate into improved revenue, increased output, and better sales, but because these unseen benefits affect the human component of the work force, they inevitably yield the results that the company is looking for in giving out trainings and seminars, such as:

• Improved interaction between employees
• Upgraded skills and knowledge leading to better sense and appreciation of self
• Better awareness of self and of fellow employees
• Improved sense of accomplishment makes for improved output
• Improved sense of accomplishment fosters better confidence
