Bollywood is a Force to be Reckoned With

When you hear the term bollywood what do you think of? The not so illustrious past of this particular film industry has been looked upon in many different ways depending on who you asked. For many Americans it was filled with too much of the Hindu culture to be enjoyable while for other countries it was something that was “different”, but not something that anyone thought would grow as big as it has today. What was for years looked upon and talked about with a condescending attitude has been transformed into something to be feared in the world wide film industry.
Over the last ten or so years bollywood videos and big screen movies have evolved from being patronized for their “safe” and “cultural” style films to being a well respected multi-million dollar industry. And one of the biggest reasons for this is because they have stepped out of that box which was their comfort zone and into a world where pushing the envelope is more common place. For instance, while in their own culture they may have been somewhat popular it was always found that they seemed to be all alike in theme and in nature. However, when you watch a bollywood film today you will see that the formula has changed to introduce new and exciting topics as well as expert visual effects.
Furthermore, what has changed is how people now see this film industry. Because of the new way of making films it is now getting a much larger and more divers following than just those that are Indian. In fact, from the U.S. to the Netherlands you can now see these great films up at the box office holding their own against the same old giants that have ruled the film industry since its inception. So now if you have not seen this bollywood masala as of yet then you are considered the exception rather than the norm. But what has really made it this way?
For the Hollywood blockbuster movie watcher such theme as pre-marital sex is as common place as it is in real life in many countries. However, when you understand the fact that in the Hindu culture this is not condoned what so ever in every day life you will see that such themes really are pushing the proverbial envelope. Furthermore, when you add themes that cover same sex relationships in such a deeply moral country then you can see the reason for the entire bollywood news buzz on these films.
But what also makes these films so enjoyable and therefore popular is that although such themes have been common place for many years in other film industries it is the fact that these films give a fresh look at such themes making them seem all that much more enjoyable to watch. So rather than watching a movie about a same sex relationship and thinking that it has all been done before you will actually be able to feel the pressure and excitement that jumps off the screen as if it was the first time these themes have ever been introduced.
