Breast Lumpiness

One of the first signs or symptoms of breast cancer is a lump in the breast. You will find that most breast lumps discovered early are rated as 9 out of 10 as being benign. Breast lumpiness can be that of breast change which usually becomes more obvious just before the start of a period, particularly in women over the age of 35.

There are a number of breast tissue related conditions that respond well to a regular breast massage. These include: Uneven or lumpy breast tissue, Pre-menstrual tension and discomfort, Swelling and pain from breast surgery, Pectoralis muscle pain, Mastitis, Milk production in lactating women.

If you perform self-breast exam, eventually you'll find a lump. Is it a lump, or just normal "lumpiness," many little benign lumps in both breasts? Breast lumps that suddenly occur need to be checked. Usually the smaller the lump, the better. The size of the lump may determine prognosis.

Swollen or painful lymph nodes in the armpits or just above the collar bone signal possible cancer. Retracted, enlarged, scaly or itchy nipple, or even spontaneous change in sensation of the nipple may also be a sign.

After you have examined your breasts visually, you should probe further, using your sense of touch. This is important because you can sometimes feel what you cannot see. Assuming you are examining your left breast first, raise your left arm and run the fingers of your right hand in circles around the breast from inside to outside.
