The amount of time and money you need spend on your yard can vary on a number of factors such as the size of the yard, how you want it to look and the climate you live in. So here are a few time and cost saving tips on how to take care of your yard and ensure that it looks its best at all times.
Maintain and mow your lawn regularly to ensure that it looks fresh and neat. When mowing your lawn, alternate by mowing in different directions as this ensures a more even cut. Usually mowing your lawn once a week in spring and summer should suffice, but if you feel that it is not enough or is too much, adjust the number of times you mow accordingly.
Nothing mars the beauty of your lawn more than weeds sticking out of it. Weeds have the ability to survive most conditions and can wreak havoc on your landscape. Any gardener worth his or her salt knows that weeds are bad news and should be gotten rid of as soon as possible. There are a number of products which can be used to get rid of weeds and to keep them away. Alternatively, to prevent the further emergence of weeds, another option would be to substitute your lawn for a ground cover such as clover. Clover is pretty to look at, increases the nitrogen content in the soil and also helps to break up compaction. This plant is drought resilient and needs minimal looking after and so it is a great option to use to ensure you don't spend time removing weeds from your garden.
Another factor to take into consideration when contemplating a beautiful yard is how it is going to be watered. Automatic irrigation systems are the best bet to keep your yard healthy and well watered. This method is a lot more efficient than hand watering and hose-end sprinkler watering, as it uses water efficiently and without waste. However, it is important to have a good understanding on how to use automatic irrigation systems, as well as the needs of your plants, to ensure that your yard is getting the optimum use out of the automatic irrigation system.
To maintain your yard, it is also essential that you fertilize it so that it gets sufficient nutrients to thrive on. Start of with obtaining a soil test to determine the amount and grade of fertilizer will need to use. This is very important as using too little will be of no use and using too much will damage your yard and also the environment. When fertilizing, use slow release nitrogen whenever possible, especially if your soil is sandy.
To make your yard more attractive, consider installing a bird bath. The chirping of birds in your yard is sure to add a homely feel to it and they will compliment your yard to the fullest. Make sure you place the bird bath in an open area, and to achieve the best results moving water attracts birds a lot more than still water. A bird feeder would also be another simple way of attracting birds to your garden. The more you put different varieties of food for the birds, the more likely you are to find various types of birds visiting your yard.
