Causes of Hair Damage

Until recently, the problem of hair loss in women was believed to be uncommon. Recent research, though, has revealed that it is far more widespread than previously thought. Some estimates say as many as 25 million American women (or more) experience noticeable hair loss and the distressing effects that often go along with it.

Brush gently. Don't brush wet hair. Untangle hair with fingers gently. Any rough action will damage the cuticle and expose the shaft. This causes long-term damage to the hair. Keep your cuticles healthy and half the battle is won. Cuticles are like the walls of a house.

Of course, there are many sources of hair damage, but as I’ve finally discovered - the main damage to my hair I caused myself. To my great relief most of it I was able to eliminate without cutting my hair off.

This is the most common cause of thinning and affects both men and women. Men generally have hair loss concentrated in a specific pattern from the front through to the crown. Women tend to have thinning throughout their head without being in any specific pattern. This type of hair loss is caused by the androgen DHT, or Dihydrotestosterone.

Hair treatments/ styling like streaking, dying, straightening, perming cause a lot of hair damage. Hair is exposed to heat, chemicals, pulling and breakage. The damage is not permanent and new hair will grow till the time the scalp is not scarred. This type of hair loss is called traction alopecia.

The good news is that you have complete control of who you choose to do your hair color and have the choice to reselect someone else if you are not getting perfect hair color every time you have a service. The very best colorist is just a phone call away.
