Choosing A Two Way Radio For Communications

There are several types and operations of two way radios. These processes can be incorporated into a cell phone so that the phone can be used for both. Or, the two way radio can be purchased as it is for 2 way communications only. A 2 way radio is also available in a portable, hand-held with a base, and walkie talkie type.

The science behind 2 way radios is not all that complex. The development of these gadgets goes back to the early 1900’s and have been further developed over time. Essentially, a transmitter and receiver are there on each ends to process ingoing and outgoing conversation. These communications are always wireless and work with radio frequencies emitted by each transceiver. The waves appear as the same in simplex code, or the first release of two way radios. Further testing lead to full duplex technology where each hand-held uses the same waveand used to enable real-time communication.

2 way radios come in different types. The standard is referred to as conventional where the devices use a predetermined RF channel. In conventional 2 way conversations, users manually select the channel to speak over. These channels are sometimes exclusive to civil service and city and state entities like: cops, fire fighters, hospital, taxi drivers, and some other important groups. Also, some channels are dedicated solely for emergency broadcast services. Within these conventional 2 way radios, there are scanning features which automatically scan the frequencies to find the optimal channel for communicating on; cell phones typically do this type of scanning.

Also, some two way radios use trunked radio communications. Within this method of 2 way radio, the hand-held can actually communicate with more than one recipient on the same channel or frequency. This exchange is sometimes referred to as multiplexing. Essentially, virtual stations are set up on the same frequency. When the person is on one of these mock stations, the others are turned off. And, vice-versa, when they are talking on the others, the first is not highlighted.

Two way radios work efficiently for many types of talking. As stated previously, 2 way radios are very effective for police and emergency personnel. In addition, truck drivers find this method of communication to be second to none. There are also other groups like the Marines and the Navy that rely heavily on this mode of communication. Furthermore, some people use amateur radio to chat with people around the globe. Whatever the need, 2 way radio communications are simple, easy, and cheap (or sometimes free). Setup is basic and the materials can be quite inexpensive. The signal though is very reliable and you do not have to buy service to use it.
