A colon cleansing program is often considered to be a dreadful experience. People are usually worried about the process of colon cleansing, since the complete procedure is pretty awkward for most of them. However, the popularity of these programs is simply undeniable and is highly important for protecting the body against various diseases. People generally fear the colon cleansing due to their ignorance; they are only aware of how tough the program is and how long it lasts, but they have no clue of the efficacy of the same and the various health benefits associated with it.

People often have a question lingering on their mind about colon cleansing - what are the dietary restrictions to be followed for colon cleansing before, during and after the procedure. Dietary restrictions have a vital role to play in any colon cleansing program. The idea solely depends on the colon cleansing type and is usually complementary to the entire program.

The process of colon cleansing is aimed at certain functions. When the toxins build up in the colon, they are likely to do 2 things:

- get eliminated from the body though effortless bowel movements - get backed up inside the system and end up in the bloodstream, thus ultimately causing cell damaging. Cell damage basically is what we commonly know as cancer.

Colon cleansing is required for cleaning out the toxins stuck in the colon and it is extremely important to maintain the same with proper diet. It is due to our diets that our colon gets clogged. As our dietary habits are over-burdening most of the times, the colon is overloaded, which in turn leads to various health complications due to the improper functioning of the vital organ.

The ultimate colon cleansing diet must include fiber, fiber and lots and lots of fiber. Though we know the importance of fiber in our diet very few of us eat the adequate portions of fiber. Fiber has been categorically divided in to 2 sub-groups: soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber aids in increasing the good bacteria in our body, which in turn helps in getting rid of bad bacteria like E. coli. The best sources of fiber include flaxseed, oats, barley, rice, peas, legumes, beans, apples, citrus fruits and strawberries. These are all soluble fiber sources.

Insoluble fiber is a great aid for constipation. Brown rice, whole wheat, rye, barley, beets, cabbage, carrots and brussel sprouts are good sources of insoluble fiber.

Eating greens everyday is mandatory for good health. Fresh green leafy vegetables are the best and the most nutritious food for health. Green foods are a powerhouse of chlorophyll, which is extremely helpful for our colon. Chlorophyll helps in smoothing the damaged tissues in our Gastro Intestinal (GI) tract. Sources of greens include spirulina, wheatgrass, algae and other fresh vegetables.

Fermented foods are also great for colon cleansing. Cultured yogurt and Sauerkraut are very good sources of fermented foods.

Lastly and most importantly water is an indispensable part of every diet program. An average adult needs to drink about 8-10 glasses of water per day. But during and after colon cleansing, you must drink as much water as possible.
