Extraction rates for many cooker hoods will range up to a thousand cubic metres per hour. Removing pollutants from the air makes for a cleaner air environment. There are many other benefits to having a cooker hood installed in your kitchen as well.

While styles and shapes have more flexibility than other kitchen appliances, there are a number of optional equipment that you can purchase to accent your cooker hood. Some of these come in the form of glass canopies, these seem to be a fairly popular choice in many kitchens. For wider cooking surfaces many name brand cooker hoods offer the adaptability of installing dual cooker hoods side by side.

Metal filters are a common component of most cooker hoods. While there are some styles of cooker hoods that don't necessitate the use of a filter, many companies include them regardless. Some offer filter monitoring in the form of a meter. This is to let you know when to clean your filter for optimum performance.

Besides choosing the shape, color, size and style of your cooker hood, you will also be presented the choice between two typical installation styles of cooker hoods. Some cooker hoods may be able to be installed in either manner, and this would definitely have to be considered an added benefit.

Some cooker hoods are installed on an inside wall. The location of your cooker hood is decided by the location of your cooking surface, unless your cooking surface is movable you don't have much choice in this. For cooker hoods installed on interior walls, it is common to use the type of installation referred to as ductless or recirculating installation. These types of cooker hoods will usually have a number of filters to clean the air before it is expelled back into the kitchen.

The other type of installation that doesn't necessarily have to have filters is the ducted installation. This type of installation can be accomplished even if your cooking hood is installed on an interior wall. The installation of ducting is necessary in order to allow the expulsion of the extracted air to the outside air. This assists in removing as many pollutants as possible from your kitchen air, making for a much cleaner air environment.

Many cooker hoods come with built in lights. These lights may be of fluorescent, halogen or incandescent variety. Some cooker hoods will use more than one type of light in combinations to provide the best lighting possible for your cooking convenience. As an added feature many cooker hoods may come with warming lights. If your cooker hood does not come with warming lights and you think it is a feature you could make good use of, you can enquire as to the availability of optional warming lights, or consider upgrading to a model of cooker hoods that comes with this feature.

If you have forgone cooking with certain types of food due to the strong odour contained in them, then a cooker hood, especially the ducted type installation may be a lifesaver for you. Freedom to enjoy those foods you have foregone for so long now, without worrying about the odour filling the whole house.
