Cooker Hoods Are A Great Addition To Your Kitchen

When the first cave man decided that cooking his kill over a fire in the rain was getting old and moved his fire inside the cave, man has had to deal with the odors of cooking inside the home. Fat falling into the fire creates smoke and terrible smells. Additionally frying foods add grease particles. These little particles of grease can collect on walls and other surfaces of the home. Cooker hoods offer an effective way to deal with cooking odors and grease. If cavemen had only had cooker hoods, they might have been a little more friendly.

In the past cooker hoods were very utilitarian. They were made of painted sheet metal. They were effective at their job, just not very pretty. Now you can find cooker hoods in many styles to complement your kitchen.

Nothing complements a country kitchen better than a copper cooker hood. When made of hammered copper that is coated with a tarnish free glaze, these hoods remain beautiful for many years to come.

In a modern style kitchen, a cooker hood made of glass and stainless steel can add both beauty and function. A slightly arched glass serves as the collector and a stainless steel duct conceals the fan and directs the air outside.

When space is limited, cooker hoods can be found in combination with microwave ovens. When the microwave oven is mounted above the range, counter space is freed up for other uses.

One option available with most cooker hoods is a light. The light is useful when the range is located in a darker area of the home. It helps to overcome any shadows presented by the cooker hood.

A blower in the cooker hood moves the cooking smells out of the home efficiently. The fan may direct the air through a duct to the outside of the home or through a filtering system and back into the room. Either way, the smells and smoke are removed form the home.

Both systems have some advantages as well as disadvantages. The outside venting hood removes the smells from the home along with excess cooking heat. It can even draw in fresh air from the outside to replace the air filled with smoke or odors. The filtering system does not require cutting holes through the ceiling and is easier to install. It is certainly best for kitchens that do not have access to outside walls or unfinished attics.

Cooking hoods should contain grease traps at the entry to the duct, otherwise the duct can become a fire hazard. Cleaning of the grease trap is simple with soap and water or by using a dishwasher. Cleaning should take place at least once a month and more often when the hood is used heavily. Failure to clean the grease trap can let grease build up in the duct work which can endanger your home due to the heat of cooking.

Use cooking hoods to add beauty and style to any kitchen. Cooking hoods are very functional and can be used to remove smells, smoke and grease from the air in your kitchen.
