Developing A Green Lifestyle: Living Off-The-Grid And Firing Your Utility Company

Are you thinking about going green and getting off thepower grid?

Many modern families have recognized that becoming energy independent is a way they want to live. They decided to develop ways of producing their own power so they are independent of the utility company providing it for their home.

The "grid" refers to the power grid which delivers electricity to most of the homes in the USA. Getting "off-the-grid" refers to a way of living where you produce your own power for your own place.

The most common ways of being off-the-grid is to use windmills or photovoltaic solar panels which generate electricity. This is not difficult and you can easily find many downloadable programs which teach you with all you need to know to start producing your own power for yourself.

When you ask a local builder to install a factory-built photovoltaic solar or wind power generating system for your place, you will need to pay anywhere from $10,000 to $27,000 for everything. This is a big investment and it will take you years of use of your off the grid power system to justify that amount of an investment.

But, usually, with a cash outlay of only $140 to $240, you will be able to obtain the plans and create your own windmills or photovoltaic solar panel and start producing your own power as quickly as you want. The plans indicate all the specific parts you require and provide precise step-by-step directions so that you can make your initial electricity producing device in a couple of days.

This small level of investment will not be enough to move to be completely off-the-grid. But, after you learn how to create and connect a wind turbine or photovoltaic solar panel, you will know how many of those kinds of devices you would need to have to replace your current power usage. It should not take too many windmills or photovoltaic solar panel to wipe out your power bill.

Many purposeful individuals have built their home electricity creating systems up to where they sell their excess electricity to the grid, instead of purchasing it from the grid. It is not that difficult and most of these downloadable programs give you information about how to do it.

If you want to go green by moving off the grid, you will find it financially rewarding, easy, and fulfilling.
