Do's And Don'ts For The office Christmas Party

1. Do attend
Your workplace festive party should not be an optional party. Even if you
can't bear the notion of spending a whole evening with people you dislike spending a working day
with, you should still make an appearance. Even if you do not enjou yourself you may meet someone new who could be
influential to your career. Use the time to network with clients or other departments and illustrate you
are part of the team.

2. Dress professionally
Don't wear anything inappropriate. You'll know from the invite and from the style of venue what will be expected of you in
terms of apparel so dress accordingly. Beware of wearing anything that will become a subject of conversation the next morning.

3. Moderate your drinking
It's the easiest thing in the world to consume too much alcohol at the workplace festive party,
particularly if the bar is free and you are standing with a drink in your hand and feeling slightly nervous.
Forewarned is forearmed. Stick to your limit, do not get involved in rounds and attempt and put your drink down between
sips. If you feel yourself overdoing it then stop completely and ensure you eat something quickly!

4. Take time to network
The workplace festive party is an ideal time to network with colleagues, other
departments, your boss or even with clients if they have been invited. Don't waste this golden opportunity to forge alliances or get your name known. But ensure you do not spend the
evening talking shop, networking is one thing, but you really do not want to become
known as the workplace bore.

5. Watch your behaviour
Whatever may carry on behind the closed doors of your department, the workplace festive party
isn't the time to swear, leer, make offensive remarks or tell dirty jokes. It is also not a good notion to
make a move on a team member. Think before you act and remind yourself that whatever you get up to, the eyes of your supervisors
are on you and everything you do will get magnified and exaggerated when it's retold at the coffee machine the next day!

6. Don't go home early
Unless you are so drunk you are in danger of making a show of yourself, do stay for at least a couple of hours. Remember
that your boss has probably spent a lot of time and money coordinating the party and it's he or she you need to impress ultimately.
