Electronic Bookreaders: What Are You Waiting For?

How do you determine which E-book Reader to buy? That is a good question. Maybe it is not even a question of which, but more of a question of: Why should I buy an E-book Reader at all?

Before I purchased my E-reader, I was happy reading books of the paperback and hardcover traditions. Just wanting to try something new can sometimes be reason enough to purchase one. In this article, I will attempt to characterize some of the pros and cons.

Some of the advantages of using an electronic book-reader are:

Best-sellers for only $.99 is a nice feature
Adjustable font size
Built-in book light
Internet access
Thousands of books available for download in just seconds
A variety of book covers
Notes and bookmarking features
Not having hundreds or more paperbacks and hardcover books accumulating dust

Some of the disadvantages of using an Electronic Book-reader are:

Not having the feel of a real book
Having to occasionally recharge it
Lending books to your friends or colleagues can potentially be a bit more complicated
Why should you spend anywhere from $80 up to $300 on an Electronic E-book, when you can purchase a paperback for $10?
What is the "lifespan" of an Electronic Book-reader? At what point would you want to upgrade to a model with more features?

You can see where this is going, the revolving purchase/upgrade revolving door.

I bought my Kindle nine months ago and I have read approximately fifty novels and various newspapers, magazines, short stories, and played some internet games. Yes, I took the plunge; I went out and purchased one, primarily because I had to see what the buzz was all about. However, it was one of the best purchases that I have ever made.

Yes, there are still times when I think reading a traditional hardcover book would be fun because you cannot replicate that with a Kindle or Nook, or any of the other Electronic Book-readers. However, I have not done it yet, and I probably will not, primarily because of the advantages of owning an Electronic Book-reader.

I am not going to get into a product comparison in this article because we can always do that later. As you can see, I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The only question is, are you ready to reverse your book reading habits? I think the overall determining factor will be; do you want to change your reading experience?

Digital book-readers are probably not for everybody, but I think most people will find them to be a gratifying reading experience. As I have stated, I like using my Kindle for my fictional book reading entertainment and I will never buy another "paper product" book.

Skeptical? I was too, until I purchased my Kindle. I also bought the lighted leather cover, no more clumsy book lights. In addition, this product is tough, don't worry you can drop it. However, one of its coolest features is that you are always just a click away from access to thousands of books.
