If you are in the process of planning your next big vacation, there are a few considerations to make beforehand which will make your travels that more enjoyable. They include:

1. Organize your documents - If you plan to travel outside of your country, this is a must. To start, make sure you have an up to date passport and that your passport will remain up to date for the duration of your trip. You may also want to check the visa requirements for the country you are traveling to, as each country is a little different. Some countries require that you arrange a visa before you leave home, while others will grant a tourist visa when you land. You may also want to consider carrying insurance while traveling. If you are traveling to an area that may be considered potentially dangerous, then check with your insurance company to verify whether you will be covered in case something goes wrong. You don't want to find yourself hospitalized in a foreign country and not have insurance.

2. Shop for Cheapest Flight and Accommodations - Flight fares as well as hotels change day-by-day and season-by-season. If you aren't locked into a particular day that you must travel, do some shopping around or allow your travel agent to do it for you. When it comes to flights, professionals say that some of the lowest fares are posted on Tuesdays; therefore this can be the best time to book online. Fares tend to go up on weekends, as they are the most sought out travel times. Hotels vary day to day as well. Hotel costs, like flights, tend to go down during the middle of the week and back up on weekends. If a hotel seems steeply marked down in price, check into whether there is construction going on in or near the hotel - before booking. Last, once you know how many nights you will be in each location, ask the hotel you are staying at to send you a city map with their hotel and train and bus stations clearly marked.

3. Get any vaccinations you might need - This one goes along with traveling outside of your country. Make sure your vaccinations are up to date and ask whether you should have new ones. The type of vaccinations you will need can vary, depending on where you are traveling. The most common maladies people protect themselves against are Typhoid, Malaria and Hepatitis.

4. Looking After Your Home - While you are away, you still want your home to be cared for. If you have pets, there are even more considerations to take such as who will watch them or whether you will you have them kenneled? What about making sure your houseplants are watered and your mail is checked? Whether you are traveling for a few days or weeks, many homes may need someone to look after them.

5. Create an Itinerary - Look into what there is to do and see on your vacation and create an itinerary. There may be special events you may want attend but can't unless you book in advance. This is certainly the case when visiting Las Vegas and trying to catch a show. Planning what you're going to see and do can help make your trip less stressful. This doesn't mean you can't be flexible. Sometimes you can take advantage of last minute deals. Here are a few Itinerary Rules:

- Select locations from which you can do day trips to other places.
- Avoid stays of fewer than two nights whenever possible.
- Give yourself enough time to get what you want from each destination.
- Remember that getting from place-to-place takes time and may be tiring.
- Investigate the different transportation options open to you and their costs.
- You can save substantially by planning properly.

6. Create a Packing List - Months or weeks before you take your vacation, start a list of things you may want to take and write them down. As the days pass by you may come up with more ideas. When packing, you can then use your list to check off items as you place them in your bag. Keep your list with you once finished just in case your luggage is lost. Last, having a list will help you edit out what you want to take and must have. These days' airlines are charging more for luggage, especially if the luggage is heavy. By carefully weighing what you truly need and don't need you can save yourself some money.

7. Money - Speaking of money, depending on where you travel, you may have to exchange your currency upon arrival. Find out what currency you will need and figure out the best way for you to deal with it. Credit cards can be convenient, but also unsafe in a lot of areas. Travelers' checks are a good safe alternative.

8. Take Your Address Book - Most people have important phone numbers inserted into their cell phones, but what if that cell phone gets lost while you are traveling? Most of us have forgotten how to memorize phone numbers as they are programmed into our phones. To help you along, take your address book or an address book just for traveling. Put all your important contact information in it. Hopefully you won't have to call home, but if there is a concern or question at least you will have the number of your pet sitter, housekeeper, and friends.

Follow these simple eight tips before taking your next big vacation and you can save yourself a lot of potential strain and stress.
