Identity theft is becoming progressively worse. We don't want to believe that it is, but the unpleasant truth is that we have to be much more mindful of all that we do. You should never believe for a moment that it won't occur to you. Every one who's ever been a victim of identity theft in all likelihood once believed the same exact thing. Alas, you can never be too cautious this day and age.
With all that being said, you should learn how to protect your identity. Here're a few Hints:
1. Beware of strange people standing right next to you or right behind you when using an ATM machine. Some individuals will even spy on you with a camera phone! These people are often referred to as shoulder surfers and skimmers. Always stay on the lookout for these people and cover the screen from them the best you can.
2. Do not ever carry your social security card on you. Unless you believe youll need it, leave it at home. If a thief steals your card, he or she will use your number to begin a brand new life.
3. Make sure to always run old statements, receipts, credit card info, etc. that you dont be needing any more through your paper shredder machine. Do not ever throw such things in the garbage. Instead, destroy it completely.
4. Demolish your PC prior to getting rid of it. Deleting information and erasing data isnt enough. You need to actually physically remove the hard drive and smash it with a hammer prior to discarding it for good.
5. Never give way any personal or financial info on-line unless you're you are positive that the web site is safe and secure. Look over reviews about a web site before purchasing anything from it.
Be sure to stick with these Hints in order to decrease your chances of becoming a fraud victim. While there aren't any guarantees these days, you should still be safety conscious nevertheless.
