Floral Perfumes for Mother's Day

Mother's Day carries usual associations of bouquets, and general art-and-crafts extras that accessorise bathroom and dressing table. However, there are variations on the traditional bouquet; the scents frequently used in women's perfumes, incense and massage oils have their own set of remedial purposes. If you're buying fragrances, there is a body of meaning behind each scent that can make a precious, personal and useful gift for

Mother's Day.
Floral fragrances can be used to stimulate concentration, clarity of mind and even the circulation. They can also be used for relaxation purposes, as aphrodisiacs or as relief from the symptoms of the common cold. Here are a few of the most basic floral aromatherapies available.

Rose, Sandalwood, Jasmine and Ylang-ylang oils have often been used as traditional and natural aphrodisiacs, supposedly increasing sexual desire. No scientific proof has ever been offered for this theory and some claim that it's simply a psychological effect, yet many people still believe it to be completely true.

Lavender, Lemon Balm and Chamomile Oils are all said to have relaxing properties and as such are frequently used for massage purposes, in sleep inducing pillow sprays and in pulse-points relaxants. Many students use these oils during stressful study periods and they are frequently found in bath and shower products due to their calming scents.

Basil oil is often used to promote concentration and mental clarity. Its sweet and pungent scent can also relieve headaches and migraine and some people have even claimed that they find it can uplift them when they are depressed.

The Body Shop's website allows online purchasing and includes more information about the different kinds of aromatherapy available, the different forms it can take and the effects of various scents. And websites like Not on the High Street provide personalised gifts, like fragrance-infused bath oil, mixing lemongrass, and grapefruit to energise, and orange and bergamot to soothe.

Without having to embrace aromatherapy as a complementary medicine it is clear that having flowers can be uplifting. A pungent scent of roses, lavender or lilies in a room can be distinctly uplifting, and the visual effect of having bright, fresh flowers can also be mood enhancing and in addition to a traditional bouquet, some scented oils add a decadent touch to a gift - an ideal extra for a lavish gesture for Mum. For the blooms themselves, try Interflora, who boasts a range of bouquets and blooms especially suited to Mother's Day, which will incorporate a variety of roses in different shades, and all sorts of arrangements.
