2. Install Required Software For Tracking

In order for the cell phone that you want to track to show up in the location tracking system, some software will need to be installed into the cell phone so it can communicate directly with the tracking system. This feature allows the phone to be turned on remotely so it can be tracked. You will also need to be sure that the cell phone is compatible with the software you will be installing. When you check the mobile phone for GPS tracking, you should also check for software compatibility as well.

3. Sign Up for the GPS Tracking Service

The tracking service is the system that keeps track of the location of the cell phone and sends alerts. It can either be software that can be downloaded onto a PC, or it can be a system that is online and you are assigned a login ID to access the service. The tracking service comes with the software that you need to install on the cell phone to be able to track it, so you don't typically need to make sure the service is compatible as well because it will automatically be compatible through the software that needs to be installed on the phone. The tracking service usually comes with monthly subscription fees. Tracking services can differ greatly in cost and functionality.

GPS cell phone tracking today is a relatively easy and affordable process due to the advances in technology. Most cell phones manufactured today have some form of GPS capability already. Software needs to be installed on the phone that allows it to send tracking data to the tracking service.

There are a host a privacy issues that now come into play with this technology. Jealous ex's can use this to unknowingly track their estranged significant others if they can get a hold of their cell phone long enough to install the tracking software. Another privacy busting scenario is that a jealous lover can just get a new cell phone and attach it to the car of the person they want to track.
