Get Fit By Getting Rid of Those Extra Pounds

It's important to be fit and healthy if you're overweight. Even just losing 5 or ten pounds can make a difference in your physical condition. Here's some weight reducing tips to help you on your goal to getting rid of those unwanted pounds.

Take the time to read and understand food labels as ads can sometimes be misleading. A low fat food item can still be high in sugar which can lead to potential health problems. When attempting to lose weight consuming a product that's low in fat but high in sugar will still cause you to gain weight.

Portion size is important when trying to lose weight. A portion size may be smaller then you might think so read the manufacturers label. If you are still feel like eating after consuming one portion size try eating from a different food group. Also being well hydrated helps to lose weight, so drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Water also helps to suppress your appetite and lose weight.

Don't shop when you're hungry or you'll tend to buy "junk" food that's low in nutrition, instead make a list prior to going shopping and stick to items on the list. People tend to buy on impulse and you're more apt to pick up "junk" food. Read the manufacturer's food labels and try to avoid foods that's high in fats and sugars.

Keep a food diary of everything you eat. Simply write down what you eat. Your food journal should help to document your eating habits. Record if you were upset or stressed when you were consuming food as it helps with recognizing any eating habits. Document what time you eat, what foods you are eating and what you're drinking as many beverages are also high in calories such as sodas and fruit drinks, milk shakes and flavored coffees.

Eating your food at a table helps to reduce the amount you eat. When you sit and eat around the TV or computer you are more likely to overeat because you are preoccupied with something else while eating food. Try not to eat emotionally. When you're emotionally upset avoid eating food. Go out for a walk, ride a bike, play tennis or do something else that is of a physical nature instead of eating.

If you chew your food slowly and drink water at meals and snacks you will consume less. Pay attention to your body. If your body is saying you are full, stop eating, you do not always have to finish what is on your plate.

When you consume out plan what you're going to eat before arriving at the restaurant. This way you won't be impulse ordering. Have the restaurant fax you their menu so that you can make your selections before leaving for the restaurant. you'll have additional time this way to make a healthier food choice. Consume fresh fruit, low fat, high fiber foods when snacking.

Lessening your fat intake:

When you're preparing food use smaller amounts of the fat group and limit your use of mayonnaise and salad dressings. Substitute herbs and spices instead of dressings.

When buying dairy products try to pick those that are low fat or non-fat. Trim the fat from the meat before cooking or grilling. Try to avoid frying the meat, instead grill or broil. Stay away from using bacon, sausages or processed meats in meals and snacks. It's also a good idea to avoid foods that are high in sugar and fats such as pies, croissants, cakes, and sausage rolls.
