When booking a holiday or trip abroad its easy to overlook the extras that you'll need to consider ? travel insurance is one thing, but then there's actually getting to the airport too. There's a few different options, but each of these will suit different travellers and budgets.

Train

If you're travelling solo, then taking the train is a cost effective and an often speedy way to reach the airport. It's much cheaper than a taxi, and usually cheaper than parking at the airport, and as long as the service isn't late, you'll know the exact time for when your arrival at the airport. One problem about travelling by train is not all airports are connected to the rail network. Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester all have good connections from their city rail links, but in other cities you'll need to arrange a taxi transfer from the station. Bus or Taxi

Taking a bus is usually a little cheaper than going by train, but it can often take much longer. If you're flying out of a London airport, then you'll more than likely have a stop off of at least 40 minutes in central London for transfer. Getting a taxi is a more expensive way to move than taking a train or a bus, but it can be cost effective and efficient if you're not travelling far and you're in a group, as you can split the cost and there's no need to park at the airport. A taxi can also pick you up at your front door and drop you off right at the terminal, which means less hassle than public transport. Two buts about transfering by cab is that it's rarely cost effective if you live a long way away or travelling alone.

Car

If there's a group of you travelling, then driving a car to the airport and parking is normally the best option. Parking at most major UK airports shouldn't cost more than 50 pounds a week, so even including petrol this comes in as much cheaper than public transport for groups of three or more travelling long distances.

Probably the best way to get to the airport ? and certainly the cheapest when in a group ? is to get a friend or relative to drive you to the airport and drop you off. You'll need someone reliable and all you'll need is to offer to pay for petrol!
