Hatha Yoga originated in the 15th century in India as part of a program of purification of the body incorporated along with meditation. Hatha is the Hindu word for “sun and , while “Yoga” is the word for “yoke” or uniting of body, mind and environment. Hatha Yoga places great significance on achieving balance between physical, mental, spiritual and emotional states in harmony with earth, water, sun and moon.

Hatha Yoga can be described as the yoga, which brings about the union of opposing forces. This is inherent in the name of this branch of yoga, since “ha” means sun and “tha” means moon. It is the form of yoga best known in the West and is very suitable for persons who are physically oriented. One of the nice things about yoga is that there are six main kinds, each suited to a different temperament

Among the many benefits of Hatha Yoga practice is enjoying a state of relaxation. If you have been practicing Yoga for a while, you might think this is a “no brainer.” Yet, you cannot expect someone who has never practiced Yoga before, to automatically know the benefits.

Can Yoga really open the gateway to happiness? Absolutely! All forms of Yoga teach meditation and Pranayama. In Hatha Yoga, these concepts sometimes become secondary to Yoga postures (Asanas). Yet, all three of these concepts combined will help you feel more cheerful - even during disappointing times.

It was the Yogi Swami Swatmarama who came up with the word Hatha yoga. The translation of “Ha” and “Tha” in Sanskrit is Sun (heat) and moon (cold) respectively, this definition of yoga means a union of forces that are in opposition. Hatha yoga is meant to prepare a person for a higher level of yoga. It involves breathing techniques known as Pranayama, special postures known as asanas and meditation.

Hatha yoga combines breathing techniques, meditation and yoga postures, and is perfect for anyone looking for help coping with the stress in their daily lives.

When people refer to yoga, they are usually referring to the most popular Hatha Yoga despite there being several different systems such as Ashtanga, Bikram and Power yoga. The word Hatha is a compound of the words Ha and Tha meaning sun and moon but when the two components are placed together the word “hatha” also means forceful, as powerful work is needed to purify the body.

If you look at a list of symptoms for anxiety, it is very diverse, but Yoga has many diverse techniques to address each one of them. This does not mean you should avoid your physician. As a matter of fact, you should contact your doctor if you feel chest pains, heart palpitations, nausea, and dizziness. Not to worry you further, but these are also symptoms of a heart attack.
