Help the Environment With Your Printer Cartridges

Over 45 million non-biodegradable printer cartridges end up in our landfills each year in just the UK alone and some of the plastics used in these cartridges can take thousands of years to fully decompose, which leaves plenty of time for their toxic chemicals to seep into the soil around them and pollute the environment. Instead of binning your cartridges once they've been used or are empty, have you ever considered refilling or at least recycling them to save the planet's limited natural resources?

If you do make the decision to recycle, refill or remanufacture your inkjet or toner cartridges, you will not only be reducing your carbon footprint but also saving yourself some money. Refilled cartridges from non-branded suppliers are around 30% cheaper than branded cartridges and in most cases, will work just as well as branded cartridges.

Recycled cartridges help stop the major brands from taking over and monopolising the cartridge market. But the big names are always fighting back and trying to tarnish the name of third-party cartridges, claiming their print quality isn't as good and that they will ruin printer warranties. This is very untrue, if you actually read the small print on your printer's warranty, in most cases, they do not state that using third-party cartridges will void your warranty. There have been many studies conducted by neutral authorities that show third-party cartridges are just as good, if not better, than original manufacturer cartridges (OEM). A lot of these third-party cartridge suppliers are now brands in themself are trusted among the savvy consumers who use them.

What goes into a toner cartridge?

As you are probably aware, oil is a non-renewable resource and it takes one to two litres of oil to produce just one toner cartridge. By refilling or remanufacturing your cartridges, you will be helping to protect one of the planet's most needed and most limited natural resources. Over half of the world's laser and toner cartridges are used only once and then thrown in the landfill - this is a huge waste, and consumers need to realise that cartridges can be used again and again. Remember by reusing your cartridges you are not only helping the environment but also helping your bank balance!

Businesses should be aware

Everyone loves an eco-friendly business and one that is ethical and aware of the environment around them. Businesses should opt for a cartridge supplier who take the environment into consideration while also helping reduce their printing budget. Using environmentally-friendly suppliers show you are a sustainable and responsible company and consumers will lap up your green credentials.

Help save the environment

If you decide to purchase cartridge refills, or even better, you already do, you are saving the planet's natural resources. You will also be putting a stop to empty cartridges from spending thousands of years decomposing in landfills. Landfills spread enough pollution through the emission of greenhouse gases and contamination of chemicals into the soil. Three of the materials that go into the making of cartridges are plastics, aluminium and oil - and these are precious resources that can be saved if we all help to reduce our carbon footprint.
