Everyone is embarrassed by hemorroids (haemorrhoids), whether they suffer from them, or not. The fact that we are talking about itching, soreness and sometimes bleeding around one’s bottom is a topic that is difficult to share with a friend, a loved one, or even one’s doctor.

But you don’t have to suffer in isolation. Some would say that hemorroids are a fact of life – no more and less – but it is our own embarrassment about our bodies that causes us such upset.

So – you’ve seen your doctor or medical adviser, and had the diagnosis. “I’m afraid you’ve got hemorroids…” and your mind is a whirl. You can’t recall anything that was said, and you’ve been given a prescription for a cream, or maybe a pharmaceutical course. Perhaps you have to return in a few months time “to consider further options…”
Is there anything you can do, in the meantime?

First, try to alter your diet so that you increase your fiber intake. This will help to keep your stools your stools soft. This need not mean adopting an extreme diet consisting solely of raw vegetables (although a ‘five-a day’ regime is commended). You may well find that by choosing to start your day with a bowl of tasty grains or muesli your bowel movements are less of a strain and more relaxed. (You may want to you’re your pharmacist for a stool softener, to use temporarily.)

Do remember to keep THAT area clean; perhaps using a baby wipe. Some people prefer to use damp toilet paper (the coolness can help sooth any burning sensation.) Don’t forget to dry your bottom thoroughly after bathing, or a shower, using soft toilet paper, or even a hair dryer on a cool setting to keep moisture away.

Next, following on from the above, if you do have a tendency to constipation, try not to force yourself when you go to the toilet. Keep a food diary, and check that you are getting enough fruit and vegetables. Also – drink lots of water. This can seem a chore at first, especially if you are a ‘addicted’ to coffee or colas.

Third, try some vegetable juices that are said to help hemorroid reduction specifically. One of these juices is radish juice. Juices are good for hemorrhoids but especially dark berry juices mixed with equal parts of apple juice. The dark berry juices to that have been claimed to help treating hemorroids are cherries, blackberries, blueberries. Without getting too technical, these berries contain "anthocyanins" and "proanthocyanidins" which reduce hemorrhoidal pain and swelling by toning and strengthening the hemorrhoid veins.it is recommended that you drink at least one glass of this juice mixture each day.

Red and black currant berries are high in Vitamin C, rutin, and minerals. This makes their juice valuable in clearing hemorrhoids. The also have a small amount of the fatty acid GLA, which produce prostaglandin that control body pain. Moreover, this juice is also good for cleansing the liver and blood. Good liver function is necessary for maintaining a healthy colon, rectum and anus.

Fourth, ask yourself these questions. Am I sitting or standing for extended periods of time? Could my hemorroids be part of a lifestyle problem? The pressure that sitting or standing can put on your rectum and all the veins can make hemorrhoids more likely. If your job requires extreme periods of sitting and standing, maybe it would be possible to talk to your talk with your boss or supervisor about taking five minute breaks every hour.

Fifth, do keep using the hemorroid treatment that your doctor gave you. So many people get depressed and think to themselves, ‘It isn’t worth it… why bother?” and gradually stop looking after themselves. On no account whatsoever think of giving up! Your life is special, and you have your path to walk, gifts to give and love to share with others. You aren’t helped by ‘playing small.’

Finally, don’t panic. Don’t despair. I am a firm believer that our thoughts and emotions do affect our body. In another article I will be sharing a simple skill for calming any panicky thoughts and addressing any hemorroid hang-ups specifically. Just because you have hemorroids does not mean you are any less attractive, sexy or special.
