How To Find A Hotel Room At Halloween In Salem, Massachusetts

These days, I think all the world is aware that when it comes to Halloween, Salem, Massachusetts is the heart of the world. With Halloween's status rising each year to the point where it's currently the second most popular holiday following Christmas, more and more serious Halloween devotees are wandering to the Witch City during the month of October. The magical proceedings and attractions, the harbor, waterfront and the famous witchcraft sites of this exceptional New England city are filled with an influx of guests from all over the USA and beyond, all anxious to indulge their devotion for Halloween with fellow kindred spirits.

So, what else does this horde of celebrants all have in common? Well, if they've traveled a substantial distance to be here, they'll require a place to stay before, during and after the great occasion, and that can be quite a challenge. I've seen "hotel panic" strike when neophyte guests realize that thousands of visitors are coming to Salem for that ultimate weekend in October and they're all in need of accommodations. So, knowing that forewarned is forearmed, I'm going to undertake to give you an notion of what to anticipate in terms of lodging in Salem during the big event.

Initially, if you're a first-time visitor planning to travel to Salem for Halloween and want a hotel room, it's most likely already too late. Earnest Halloween worshipers who make the journey each year have very likely scooped up all the rooms in Salem's two main hotels: the Hawthorne and the Salem Waterfront. And knowing the score, they almost certainly planned for this year shortly after they left for home last year on November 1 (the saddest day of the year for Halloween lovers). So now that you know what the challenges might be, all is not necessarily lost. In addition to the two main hotels, Salem features about a dozen inns and bed-and-breakfasts. They're your next best alternative to secure a room within the city. From here, we must to broaden our horizons. Salem is the county seat of Essex County. As the core, it's bordered by the cities and towns of Danvers, Peabody, Lynn, Swampscott, Beverly and Marblehead (with the Atlantic Ocean accounting for the remaining side). There are motels to be found in all of these spots and although you'd have to drive to Salem or catch a taxi or some type of public transportation where it's accessible, it's not a long trip as each city or town is right across the Salem city line.

Subsequently there's one other approach to take when all else fails (and you've really waited far too long to find a room). You can stay in Boston. The capital city of Massachusetts is merely about 17 miles south of Salem and has places to stay all throughout the city. You can arrive in Boston by car, train or plane and you can then simply take a pleasant ride to and from Salem by way of the local railroad or by bus. The train trip will take about a half-hour and will convey you within walking distance to Salem's city center area, very handy to the action. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority knows there are thousands of visitors in the Witch City on Halloween and runs extra trains for the occasion. You may not actually be spending the night in the city, but the silver lining is you won't have to get involved in traffic jams or finding a place to park in Salem on October 31st.

So there's always hope. Where there's a will - or a spell - there's a way to find a place to stay and embrace the bewitching season in Salem - wherever you end up parking your broom!
