By: Brian Middle Click author's name for more of his/her articles

When individuals within the team go off in their own direction, the structure and stability of the team is shaken. Good teamwork requires that everyone is united and working towards one shared intention.

The Role of teaching in Team Building
Good teamwork starts with great leadership. A person in charge of team building should drive to be an educator, not just a project supervisor. This does not mean that you have to be a skilled teacher by profession. Many excellent teachers aren't collegiately trained but are family men and women who constantly teach their kids how to progress in the world. A team builder's job is to strengthen the unity and the overall performance of his or her team. This may involve working with each member so that they can excel at a comfortable pace. It may require drawing people out if they are apprehensive about self-expression.

But educating a team involves something more than just explaining advice and coming across as an authority. Maintaining great team work actually involves designing a responsible family unit. You do not want a classroom, but a family of team members who all work together to fulfill their own goals, and ultimately the team mission. This will require qualities not usually associated with business or coaching; qualities like love, compassion, humanity and even spirituality. These qualities are imperative in reaching your team members and showing them that there is glory in more than just the win, and more happiness to find than just short term fulfillment.

The Role of games and Activities
A great teacher knows the importance of keeping the interest of his or her students. Communication ought to be open and fulfilled. So try and eliminate all of the boring, perfunctory talk and focus on what motivates the team. Possibly a group discussion gets people excited or a number challenges may be required to actually revitalise a team. produce challenges that are fun, practical and applicable to the organisation or corporation being represented.

Role playing scenarios is a popular example of a team building exercise. If you wish to teach a team of people the importance of procedure and emphasise certain points, then letting a team member role play as management is an effective educating method. This exercise also aids in improving communication between team members and management and between team members in general.

The challenge is to find the right game or activity that accomplishes your ultimate intention. As a team builder it would be your role to find the right activity, based on what you know about the company, the mission at hand, and your own team members. Assume the role of educator and ensure your team understands the value of team spirit!
