How to Gain Twitter Followers

Good for you, you have started your very own Twitter account, and now you’re prepared to start putting your organization or your product out there. How do you achieve this effectively? You need to find a way to gain quick, reliable followers that will retweet and reply to your updates and help you gain a following. Just following big Twitter stars from the "Suggested Users" list such as Al Gore, Oprah Winfrey and TIME.com will not get you the following you are looking for. These users already boast thousands - if not millions - of followers, and honestly they are stingy with the follows that they give out. You're better off creating your own empire from the ground up on your own.

What you may not know is that you could by now have an advantage by simply already having an online presence. With an average of at least 10 followers, this method is quick and efficient at getting you started with Twitter. It's nothing special, all you need is your own social networking tools and a little bit of time. I'm assuming you possess at least a Digg, StumbpleUpon, or Mixx profile. Other social networking and community websites will also work, like blogging and microblogging websites. Here is what you do. Try a post, an email or a public note stating that your friends and fans can now view your updates on Twitter. Remind them to send you their Twitter username so you may follow them as well. You'll need to make a post telling your readers that you can now be found on Twitter, and request your users and readers to send you their details. If you're wanting prompt follows, it is critical to follow people as well. This will help build online relationships and repertoire. It does not hurt to invite new users to Twitter also. Tell the person a little about it and permit them resolve what is fitting for them.

The benefit to this practice is that your friends' followers will be able to view your updates as well. Here is why Twitter is so viral - when there are retweets or responds to your update, it shows up on another feed, which in turn shows on the screens of whoever follows that feed. To give you some comparisons, if you tweet something and have 20 followers, and just one of your followers retweet it, that is now showing up to your 20 followers, as well as however many followers the person had that retweeted. And if they had 30 followers, that is now a total of 50 users that are able to view that one tweet. Viral marketing in it’s finest.

However, gaining the followers is only half the challenge. You have to have interesting updates to gain followers, and persist posting out of the ordinary content to keep them. Some posting ideas are interesting articles, famous blog posts, or the retelling of a funny conversation you've experienced. Random comments also tend to do well. Most important, avoid updates that are bland and lack informational content. Hearing about the siesta you took, the time you went to bed or the snack you just ate never appeals to anyone. Happy Tweeting!
