Mold is so commonplace we usually don't give it much thought. When bread gets moldy we toss it and forget it. No problem, right? Well... not exactly. Mold is all around us. Its toxic spores fill the air near where it grows. It doesn't usually get the respect or the attention it deserves... When you get right down to it, mold is a very serious problem. Breathing-in its spores can make you sick, even kill you. The most common form of mold is stachybotrys chartarum, a kind of black mold which also happens to be the most deadly. That's the type of mold that is commonly found in damp places like your bathroom. It is important to make sure that your bathroom stays mold-free. Bathrooms, kitchens, basements, boats and recreational vehicles; all are places that people frequent and where mold may grow. Wherever people go, they breathe. Wherever one finds mold, there are also mold spores. If you or others in your family breathe in mold spores in any sizable quantity, you are opening the door to serious health problems and other troubles. Also, mold, when left alone, can do serious structural damage to your home or boat. It eats and destroys almost any organic material such as wood or fabric. In time it can completely destroy it. Once-strong floors can can be eaten away until they suddenly cave in. Walls can give way and crumble. Lots of that happens after a flood. It can happen without flooding if moisture is present for a longish time. You can remove mold, of course. To remove black mold correctly and safely requires that the one doing the mold removal know how to do it right and what safety precautions to take. It also requires knowing how to kill mold to remove it permanently, so that it doesn't come right back. Given that you've got a problem with mold, there are two options. Professional mold abatement companies can be hired to come over and inspect things, then clean the mold and repaid whatever damage it's done. This works well but tends to cost a lot. Tha other way is to do it yourself. That can work just fine. But you need to know what you are doing or you could get into serious problems. If you are going to do mold removal yourself, take the time first to take a quick training course in the "how's" and "how not's" of mold abatement and black mold removal. That way you will know all about removing black mold safely and permanently. Taking the time to educate yourself on the subject first will pay huge dividends. It will ensure that you can do the job without endangering yourself or your family, and do it very well.
