While taking a dietary supplement to boost immune system performance can be important at any time, it is particularly important as cold and flu season approaches. Everyone can benefit from an immune system booster, some more so than others. People who live or work in a high risk environment, such as a hospital or nursing home are exposed to more germs, viruses and bacteria. In order to avoid numerous colds and other illnesses, dietary supplements that boost immune system performance may be of help.

The immune system in your body is an amazing functionality that produces antibodies to fight against any infections whether it is bacterial, fungal, or cancers. Any micro organism that invades our body is kept under check and it is destroyed by the immune system in our body. Any intrusion by a micro organism alerts the immune system and it produces antibodies against that particular micro organism to destroy it.

Andrographis Paniculata (AP) is an ancient medicinal herb and is an ingredient in some immune system supplements. Scientific studies have shown that AP not only supports a healthy immune system, but may help those with a “not so” healthy immune system, by interfering with a virus’ ability to reproduce itself. AP has also been evaluated for side effects and safety and was found that even when very large doses were given to animals there were no toxic effects on the liver, kidneys or other organs of the body. Some commonly recommended immune system supplements are believed to be toxic to the liver if taken for extended periods of time.

The nutrients shown to be immune boosters are Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin D, Zinc, Selenium, Garlic, Onion, and Protein. Don't rush out to buy vitamin and mineral multiple supplements. It is far safer and healthier to gain boosters through organic food. In fact, overloading on Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Zinc, and Selenium can be detrimental to your health by actually working against your immune system.

There are a number of things that one can do to strengthen immune system responses and improve immune system reactions. Good nutrition is of the utmost importance. With the knowledge that most people do not eat the right variety of foods in the right combination to achieve optimal health and function of the entire body, it may be necessary to add dietary supplements to strengthen immune system responses, particularly as the cold and flu season approaches.

Disorders in the immune system can cause diseases. Immunodeficiency disease is the most common when the immune system malfunctions. This happens when the hyperactive immune system attacks the normal tissues. In more tragic cases, malfunctioning can lead to cancer. And thus it is very important to take care of our immune system. Be healthy always.
