30-DAY PLAN
You can turn almost anything into a Habit if you implement what I call a 30-day plan. All you have to do is to decide what new habit he want to acquire and then agree to practice that habit every day for just 30 days. IF in 30 days he don't like the results, quit.
That's all there is to it.
Make sure you schedule each day's practice and an honor your schedule. Don't let yourself skip days because of weekends, or holidays, or illness, or because you had to go out of town. Do not accept any excuses for missing even a single day. If you miss the day, start over.
The beauty of a 30-day plan is that it minimizes your natural resistance to change. You are asking yourself to give up anything; he just asking yourself to try something new for a while. He can stand almost anything for a few days. After 30 days, if you don't like your new Habit, you're free to go back to the old one. But the chances are that by then your new Habit will feel more comfortable than the one it has replaced.
COMFORT ZONE
Have you ever wondered why most New Year's resolutions rarely lasts beyond
New Year's Day? Have you ever wondered why habits are so hard to break?
Have you ever wondered why even the best intentions of one moment are forgotten in the rush of the next?
Each of us has our own internal " Comfort said it is " by which we tend to operate, like the upper and lower settings of a thermostat. We regulate our behavior by the settings, the way a thermostat regulates the temperature of the room. Whenever our life falls too far below our settings or rises too far above them, our mental thermostat kicks in to bring us back within our Comfort Zone.
ADJUSTING YOUR COMFORT ZONE
To adjust your comfort zone, you have only to change the settings in your mind,
much the way he would change the settings of a thermostat to adjust the Comfort Zone of a room. Once you change yourself on the inside, the outside will soon catch up. Change your idea of how you should live, and you'll soon change how you do live. That's the way human beings operate.
Your comfort zone is determined by your habits, specifically, by the mental movies you show yourself to force of habit. To change your Comfort Zone, simply change your movies. Your mind will then regulate your actions according to the new settings, the way it used to regulate your actions according to the OLD settings.
To change your movies, think of your mind as your own private movie theater.
You are the projectionist. You control the sound, the brightness, the taller, even
the speed at which you ruled the fell. You can show whatever movies you choose for as long as you choose. You can run the same movies over and over, or just your favorite scenes. If you don't like a movie you’re showing, you can stop this scene in show something else.
Because your movies are Habits, you can change them the same way he can
change any other Habits-WITH practice. Practice a new movie for 30 days,
without missing a day, and you'll begin to play AUTOMATICALLY, the same way
used to play the old one. Keep practicing until your new movie feels as natural as the old one.
When you learned how to change your Comfort Zone to accommodate your wishes, you find it the most natural thing in the world to make those wishes come true.
DISCOMFORT
The thing to keep in mind about making any kind of change, whether it's changing habit or changing your comfort zone, is that process of change itself is uncomfortable. When you make it change, the chances are that at first cure going to feel some mild discomfort. That is not a symptom that something is wrong; it's a symptom that something is right. The discomfort is telling you that you're going beyond what your custom to. You're attempting something that you aren't yet comfortable with is you want to become comfortable with it. You're stretching the old you in a new direction that will eventually produce a better you. That is called Growth. And growth is what life is all about.
Learned to expect the discomfort of change and to embrace it as proof that you’re still alive, still vigorous, still growing. At the moment to stop changing, you stop growing. The moment to stop growing, can stop living. Cultivate change; except discomfort; insist on growth. When you'd do, Your Comfort Zone will expand to make your wishes come true.
