In our times medics and governments of an amount of lands are utterly worried about the psyche of younger generation. Sociological surveys show that every day more teenagers get into dejection and are disposed to commit suicides. Loneliness, lack of mutual understanding and disregard from the part of adults are among the wide-spread reasons for such a deplorable condition. Teens, although, find comfort and appeasement in different youth subcultures like emo, goth, punks and so forth.

Youth formations often clash with the antagonists in the person of grown-ups and educationalists who suppose them to have a baneful influence on the psyche of young people. Quite the opposite is the opinion of teenage psychologists who affirm that these youth formations help young people to outlive life extremities and difficulties of adolescent period. Let’s take the subculture of emo to prove this opinion. Emo boys and girls, notwithstanding the existing social opinion that they’re aggressive, display deference to everybody irrespective of the race or faith. The most important issue is that emo young people are ready to bid defiance to the regulations of community in the terms of emo clothes and appearance. Very often people might be confused by the way emo girls and boys dress: both boys and girls wear close-fitting dark jeans with thorny belts, tiny T-shirts, sportive shoes, diverse stripes and badges, long black jackets and a bag over the shoulder. An emo clothing isn’t the point to assert something or to differ from the other people but the way of self-actualization. The anger of some people may as well be aroused by the appearance of emo people. Bright make-up, rings in various parts of body, haircut to the back of the head dyed dark and leaving a long curl that hides half of the face and colored rosy are the specific way to look for both emo guys and emo girls. Eyes are the mirror of the heart and feelings of emo people that’s why they accentuate them with black eyeliner and black shadows. Psychologists say that there is nothing weird in it as teens are able to express their nature unreservedly this way.

To continue, emo boys and girls vary not only in their clothes and outward look but also in psychological state. Emo girls can be very susceptible and shy. Those girls are also genuine and rather emotive. Emo boy may be characterized as rather sensitive and sympathetic. It’s rather different feelings, though, which vary from the feelings typical citizens got used to. The rate of expression of these feelings is a few times bigger with emo boys and girls, for example, they might be quite dejected when they do not get approval or reciprocal feeling of those who are around. In conditions of incomprehension or disregard, psychologists say, typical teenagers as usual retreat into themselves that sometimes leads to committing self-murder. Emo girls and boys don’t hide their emotions deep inside; they communicate and share their opinions with one another. Well, is it bad if a teenager searched out like-minded people with whom he may spend his free time and share his views? As the final point it’s necessary to mention that adults and teachers should not forbid their offspring to join some youth subculture or youth group and give them liberty for self-actualization.
