Make a difference and take pleasure in the Wildlife Destination at The Nagarhole National Park
Nagarhole, meaning ‘Snake River’ in Kannada, is a small town in Karnataka where Nagarhole National Park is situated. It is a picture perfect tourist spot with lush green forests, mind taking water falls. Nagarhole derives its name from the winding course of the river like a snake that flows through the forests. Explore the surroundings of Nagarhole, feel the amazing beauty of the nature and take a moment of bliss to remember.
Green is the keyword for any of the places that you visit in and around Nagarhole. And the experience of being close to the Mother Nature is very thrilling. Though there are a number of places to visit around Nagarhole, the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and the Bandipur National Park are the two destinations that one must not miss. The different species of birds in the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and the natural habitat of some of the rare species of flora and fauna along with the Asiatic Elephant in the Bandipur National Park make them the nature lover’s destinations.
Nagarhole has a large elephant and bison population. It also hosts a variety of animal species along with approximately 250 species of birds. On its northern boundaries is the Kabini River and on its southern fringes is the Bandipur national park. A dam on the Kabini River and its picturesque reservoir demarcates the two national parks. During the dry season (February-June), this artificial lake attracts a large number of animals, making it an ideal spot for sighting wildlife.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The summer (March-May) temperature does not cross the 33°C mark. The brief winter, which lasts from November to January, has temperature dropping to 14°C. Monsoon is unpredictable, but it generally rains from June to September.
The forest is home to animals like the four-horned Antelope, Sloth Bear, Jungle Cat, Civet, Spotted Deer, Elephant, Wild Dog, Flying Fox, Tiger, Panther, Gaur (Indian Bison), Sambar, Wild Boar, Black-Naped Hare, Bonnet Macaque, and Pangolin. Cobras, Crocodiles, Kraits, Pythons, Vipers, and several species of Lizards are also found here.
The area consists of plain land as well as sloping hills with varied flora from dry deciduous to semi-evergreen forests. The smell of fresh, pure air rejuvenates the spirit of any tourist reaching the Nagarahole National Park. The beauty of the sun trying to bathe the forest with its rays at dawn is delightful.
