Men’s Skin Care Involves Exfoliation and Moisturising

Once upon a time, men’s skin care was unthinkable as skin care was only supposed to be something for women. However today with men realising the importance of men’s skin care, it has an important part in the skin care industry.

Increased collagen and elastin makes men’s skin thicker

Men’s skin care is different from women’s as their skin is different. Men’s skin has more collagen and elastin, making their skin thicker. They also have oilier skin as their sebaceous glands tend to produce more oil. Moreover, the everyday shaving may be harsh on skin, making it important that they use a shaving gel filled with vitamins.

Men tend to spend lots of time in the sun fishing, working or playing golf. It is important to protect their skin as too much sun can make them look old and give a weather-beaten look to the face. Use sunscreens for protection from the sun; preferably sunscreens or moisturisers having an SPF of 15 or above.

An important part of men’s skin care is washing of the face twice a day to remove all oils and dirt from the skin. This also helps prevent skin conditions like pimples, acne and ingrown hair.

Exfoliate before shaving for a better shave

Because shaving can dry the skin, a moisturiser with vitamins and aloe Vera is a must for men’s skin. Those alcohol based aftershave products may provide a cooling effect for your skin; however it is not good for the skin as it dries it. It is better to soften the skin with warm water before shaving.

This makes it easier to form lather; whist the massaging of the shaving cream helps increase blood flow in the skin. Remember to shave with a sharp blade, and to shave in the direction of hair growth.

Men’s skin care also involves exfoliating the skin to open pores and remove dead skin cells before shaving to give a better shave. Steaming your face before shaving helps in the opening of hair follicles.

However, cold water has to be splashed on the face after shaving to ensure that skin pores close. Applying aloe Vera after shaving creates wonders as it is a wonderful post shave moisturiser.

Essential oils are part of men’s skin care

An important part of men’s skin care is care of the whole body with exercise and by following a diet of fruits, vegetables and lots of water to hydrate the skin. Try to avoid greasy foods as this is bad not only for your skin, but also for your health.

With a daily exercise routine, your pores get cleared up whist metabolism increases to produce increased sweating, which in turn leads to cleansing of the inner body. Though oils are considered to be bad for the skin, there are some oils in men’s skin care that when used correctly, is helpful for oily and acne prone skin.

These oils are essential oils like sage, mint, tea tree and lavender used in men’s skin care, which are naturally antiseptic and helpful in healing the skin. With these tips in men’s skin care, not only external, but also internal health of the skin is improved.
