Mens Ties - Four Things You Should Know

By: Jeff T Click author's name for more of his/her articles

As one of the most important men fashion accessories, men have at least a few neckties in their wardrobe. Most guys don't know much about a necktie. Here four common topics are introduced including necktie history, how to make a silk tie, the function of a necktie and what the general dress code with a necktie.

Originally neckties are developed from silk neck scarves. A silk neck scarf used to be a symbol of goodwill bestowed by the ruler of China. It was also used in France to favor the king's elite army regiment. Neckties can be categorized by period from the 1920's to the present day. Neckties come in many styles, silk ties, wide, extra long etc. A five inch width is cut for a tie in the old days. Ties started to get thinner in the mid 1950's era. Now neckties are becoming wider again excluding designer neckties. Being an accessory means that the function of a necktie is to complement what you are wearing. So the necktie width should match the body frame.

You will find that most good neckties are silk. Silk doesn't exactly grow on the trees, as you can imagine. This is an extremely costly fabric to produce. Silk is carefully woven from millions of tiny silk cocoons that have been spun by real silk worms, and takes a long time to create a sheet of fabric big enough to make a silk tie! Once woven together and reinforced, the silk fabric can then be dyed with the desired color through a natural, organic staining process or through highly advanced chemical coloring.

Silk ties are men fashion accessories and a master-piece to show your fashion favor. Neckties are often overlooked as a minor element in outfits, an insignificant piece of fabric worn simply because of tradition or dress codes. However, neckties are just great for spicing up your outfit. They show off luxury and authority very well. Ties are also a great symbol for the world that men live in. Silk ties are highly preferred by most men. With those close to you, the neckties are for remembrance and enjoyment. Ties come in sizes suitable for boys and men who are very tall. Neckties are often included as required uniform components for women, especially in the restaurant and hotel industries. Some secondary school students in countries requiring neckties also require girls to wear them as part of the uniform.

Neckties are definitely superior creations. Neckties attract immediate attention becuase they are at eye level. The professional man, who is trying to present a civilized image, should make certain that silk ties are a part of his basic wardrobe. The dressing style of a person conveys a social message to other members of the society. Neckties are just like the exclamation points of declarative sentences, instead of ending it with a period - you need that extra charm in order to shake things up.

A necktie goes with certain styles of dress. Formal wears are usually complemented with white neckties and black ties. For formal events, certain tie colours are more appropriate, such as white or black neckties. Accessorize your neckties with cufflinks for that added touch of style.
