Whether you're new to the industry, or an experienced technician hoping to polish up your CV, you'll find hands-on MSCA training tracks that teach both levels of entry. Each option needs a different solution, so pay attention that you're on the right training programme before getting going. Search for a company that's eager to understand you, and what you're trying to achieve, and can give you enough information to make your choice.

Several companies offer a Job Placement Assistance program, to help you into your first commercial role. The fact of the matter is it isn't a complex operation to get employment - assuming you're well trained and qualified; the growing UK skills shortage sees to that.

One important thing though, avoid waiting until you have finished your training before getting your CV updated. As soon as you start a course, enter details of your study programme and get it out there! You might not even have got to the exam time when you land your first junior support role; but this isn't going to happen if your CV isn't in front of employers. You'll normally experience quicker service from a local IT focused recruitment consultant or service than any training provider's recruitment division, as they will be more familiar with the area and local employers.

Do be sure that you don't conscientiously work through your course materials, just to give up and imagine someone else is miraculously going to secure your first position. Stand up for yourself and start looking for yourself. Put the same focus into securing your new role as you did to gain the skills.

Ask any capable advisor and they'll entertain you with many horror stories of salespeople ripping-off unsuspecting students. Ensure you only ever work with a skilled advisor that asks some in-depth questions to discover the most appropriate thing for you - not for their wallet! You need to find an ideal starting-point that fits you. In some circumstances, the training start-point for a person with experience is often largely different to the student with none. Consider starting with some basic PC skills training first. It will usually make the transition to higher-level learning a bit more manageable.

Does job security honestly exist anywhere now? Here in the UK, with businesses changing their mind on a day-to-day basis, there doesn't seem much chance. Security can now only exist through a swiftly growing marketplace, driven by a lack of trained workers. It's this shortage that creates just the right environment for a secure market - a more attractive situation all round.

The IT skills-gap throughout the United Kingdom falls in at over twenty six percent, as shown by the 2006 e-Skills study. This shows that for each 4 job positions that are available across computing, we've only got three properly trained pro's to perform that task. This basic truth shows the validity and need for more properly accredited computing professionals across the UK. It's unlikely if a better time or market circumstances could exist for obtaining certification in this quickly emerging and developing market.

It only makes sense to consider learning paths that'll grow into commercially recognised accreditations. There's a plethora of trainers suggesting 'in-house' certificates which aren't worth the paper they're printed on in today's commercial market. If your certification doesn't come from a company like Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco, then chances are it will have been a waste of time - because no-one will recognise it.
