Mobility Products: Which Is Right For You?

Are you elderly or handicapped and tired of having to have things done for you while you are stuck in one spot? Do you want to be able to move around freely?

If so, there are many personal mobility products that can make that happen.

Your first option is a manual wheelchair. They are fairly cheap, lightweight, and can often be found in different colors.

These chairs are sturdy but fold easily for increased portability. The chair's height and the angle of the leg rests are often adjustable. To get around, all you have to do is move the wheels with your hands.

They are a great choice for those with injuries that will heal in time because they are simple and cost efficient.

A power chair is also a good choice, especially if your arm strength is low. These are essentially wheelchairs, but they are motor operated. There are many types, models, and sizes of these machines.

The type you purchase will depend on your specific needs. They all work the same, though. There is a joystick you move that operates the power chair as you command it and is rechargeable by plugging into a wall outlet.

A mobility scooter is an excellent tool for getting around both indoors and outdoors. It is especially comfortable for grocery store visits and trips to the park or zoo.

A scooter is motorized like a power wheelchair, but it doesn't look anything like one. It has two rear wheels, a flat space for your feet, and then handlebars for turning the front wheel.

A basket can be put on front to carry your items as well. This vehicle can also be recharged easily. They also come in different models and colors.

If you can walk but get tired or need a little support to do so, a walker could be just what you need. You can lean on them as you walk to keep from falling. It is basically just a frame with four stable legs.

You can adjust the height as needed for your comfort, and basket attachments are available for carrying objects from room to room with you.

Some models of walkers even have wheels on the front legs. However, these should only be used by those who are slightly more stable.

If you need help to move but want to be mobile, think about purchasing one of these mobility products.

Home medical supply stores are a great place to look. Find the item that is best for you and get back out into the world!
