Like almost all other industries and practices, IT subcontracting also has had its share of myths . While these myths haven’t been able to stop the stream of subcontracting, they have done great harm to small businesses that desired to gain from the many advantages of outsourcing information technology tasks. In this article, we will view some common myths and will learn why they are myths simply.

Some masses inside the mainstream media opine our local economic systems are negatively affected by IT subcontracting. One can’t refute the loss the jobs in the information technology industry, but to state that the gross result on the economic system is bad won’t be correct. If subcontracting your IT tasks permits you to reduce expenses and enjoy more profits, doesn’t that mean more earnings for the shareholders. And let's not forget that most of the tech products utilized in countries where we subcontract work are actually mass-produced by western firms like Dell. So while offshore information technology outsourcing can cut some jobs, it brings in others to cover the gap.

Secondly, subcontracting now appears to be a stain to some masses in the corporate sector. This, I conceive, is because of never-ending propaganda by some media that subcontracting damages economy and is unpatriotic to do. However, numerous noteworthy multinational companies outsource IT jobs, not only to cut costs but also to focalize on their main tasks. In fact, the fundamental doctrine behind a business enterprise is to gain earnings and to expand. IT subcontracting permits US businesses to benefit from talented folks living far away, so we basically utilize great untapped brains that certainly bring more innovation to the entire human race.

Another general myth is that we discount numerous invisible costs related with IT outsourcing, and if all these costs are taken into account, then subcontracting doesn’t contract costs. Yet, if you compare the hourly earnings of employees in Asian countries like India, you will see that there are huge saving potentials. Furthermore, you eliminate all the fixed expenses associated with a larger workforce, like extra computers, electrical devices, transport arrangements, etc. This greatly reduces risks for small firms, and permits them to start with minimal investment. And here, we also debunk the myth that subcontracting is good only for big businesses that have the ability to supervise work in different regions.

Lastly, there are a couple misconceptions that actually come up due to bad work by some subcontracting providers. Managers in western countries usually don’t take the essential measures to avoid subcontracting failures because they don’t have experience about all this. For example, people think overseas service providers will never deliver on time. This is usually the outcome of inappropriate selection. There are many providers in the USA who are typically late.

Then, many a managers face communication issues while dealing with offshore workers. Above all, employing dedicated workers that don’t work simultaneously for other people can set straight a multitude of problems that we mostly come across.
