The problem with this method however, is quite simple. Most amateur sports bettors can not hold up their end of the bargain. That is to say, while a good sports handicapper may run a fairly consistent 58% of his sports tips as winning picks, the average sports bettor who thinks he runs 52% or more winning picks is extremely erratic with his picks and often exaggerates his win percentage or guesses at it, invariably in his own favor. The sports handicapper, humming along with his 58% wins is therefore cancelled out a large percentage of the time and many of his winning picks never get bet. This is no problem for him, you are the one paying for his picks. But this clearly means you will be better off betting all or most of your handicappers picks and holding on to that 58% win rate, rather than eliminating a bunch of winning picks when your win percentage may even be under 50%. No offence to your ability as a handicapper.

The handicapper's attitude is: If we give you winning NFL Picks week after week and you don't bet them, that is on you. If you have a gut feeling at the last minute and bet the other team, or you take five different handicappers free NFL tips and bet the one with three of the same picks, how can you evaluate your handicapper's picks?
