While it's important to play outside, young children are constantly learning, no matter what activity they are doing. With all the different kinds of toys that children go through as they grow, it is also important to find activities that will also grow with the child as well and still keeps them entertained as they get older.

One of the outdoor games to consider for your toddler is bocci ball or outdoor bowling sets. These games have come a long way and come in many styles and variations. Many companies sell them and they are even available in a soft foam, ideal for smaller kids so they won't get hurt. These games provide not only lots of fun, but it's a learning experience as well. It develops eye hand coordination, simple strategy thinking, as well as getting in plenty of physical activity.

There are many different toys out there that will help improve your child's balance and coordination as well. You have a selection of mini balance beams, platforms and small trampolines. You should always use toys like these with your child for maximum supervision and safety.

With all the different choices and brands out there it is sometimes overwhelming which one to choose. You want your child to have fun, but you also want them as safe as possible. There are many websites available that have tips on how to make your child safe, but here are some basic tips to start with that you should be aware of.

The first and foremost about any product you buy for your kids is read all the information first, and if there is a label saying not for kids under three, don't use it for a toddler. When you are looking at a toy, whether it's for outdoor play or inside the house, make sure there are not small parts that your child can choke on. Even at 5 and under, a kids mouth is small, so it might be a good idea to take an empty toilet tissue roll with you. If any part is as big or smaller than that, don't buy it.

Always make sure that everything is attached securely. Anything not securely attached should not be considered. If you need too, check the toy yourself to see if something could come loose by shaking it or turning gently. If it doesn't loosen for you, then it may be safe. Don't break anything, but use common sense when handling merchandise. You want to make sure that what you're buying is sturdy, and will grow with your child.

Even though there are rules against using lead based paint, it is always a good idea to make sure you are not buying any products that may contain lead, or lead based paint. Older toys, that may have been handed down in your family or given to you by friends should especially be checked. Test kits are available at any hardware store if you are ever not sure about something.
