The sirens blare. Another outburst has come about that the police are needed. You watch from the corner and decide that this is what you really want to do with your life.

Once you go to college, enroll in criminal justice and after having finished police academy, you are ready to set out to become the police officer you have dreamed of being. So, how do you do this? You know there is a police recruitment process.

The first part of this process is taking a written exam. Consider this a comprehensive exam of everything you were taught while in the police academy. These questions will pertain to this police department's needs. Once you have done this, while you are waiting to meet with the board as is the next part of the police recruitment process you are asked to do a ride a long.

The ride along is to help you as you are getting a feeling of what a typical day would be like. Once that is over, you meet with the board as they grill you on questions that you should know the answers to already. Their theory is that anyone can study for the exam, but to remember it when you really need to recall the information is sometimes hard.

Once you have submitted your resume and application and you have gone through the initial tests you are then interviewed by the chief. The chief is the one who knows his or her crew. They want someone that can work with the team and even add something to the team. If you can't do this, then it means that you might not be able to work effectively. This is a major thing.

The next part of the police recruitment process is a critical part as well. You need to be able to withstand the long hours and the chases that you might have to do. That is why you are given a physical exam to make sure you can keep up. The same thing is with your mind. You will see a lot of things that one shouldn't have to see. If you aren't in sound mind, then it could affect you as well as the people you are trying to help. They evaluate your mental state to make sure you are up to par.

The hardest part of going through the police recruitment process might or might be this next part but for some the wait is the longest thing they have to go through. At this point, you have to wait to see if you are hired. The person who makes this decision is the chief of police. If you are hired then it's time to get to work but for those who aren't hired, it's back to the process.

While you might think you are way over your head as you read this, you can't think about how many steps you have to accomplish. You have to think about the end result. Think about the people you can help and the justice that will be served. When you do this, you will have a different attitude about going through the police recruitment process.
