PokerStars EPT Awards

The first ever European Poker Tour Awards (EPT) will take place in Barcelona on September 9th 2008 - the eve of Season 5 opening event EPT Barcelona.
The first European Poker Tour Awards, hosted by PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu and Gloria Balding will be held on the eve of the EPT opening event in Barcelona at Opium Mar with a ceremony that will see the best and most popular players from EPT Season 4 rewarded for their hard work and success - the perfect way to celebrate the start of Season 5!

The EPT Awards will give out awards in seven categories.
There will be five categories decided by a panel of judges, Best Newcomer, Best Performance, Best Overseas Player, Best PokerStars Qualifier and Player of the Year.

The general public will be voting to determine the People's Choice Award at the EPT.com Web site; the media will also vote on the Poker Writers' Award through the site.

Heading up the Judging panel is John Duthie, EPT executive producer who described the People's Choice Awards as "the public's chance to pick any player who competed in EPT Season 4 to win this special award." The other judges are Lee Jones, former PokerStars cardroom manager; Victoria Coren, writer, TV presenter and Team PokerStars Pro; and John Caldwell.

The Poker Writers' Award allows accredited media members to vote for the player from Season 4 they most enjoyed writing about or interviewing in the course of the season. Voting is open until Aug. 29.

The awards ceremony will take place Sept. 9 in the Opium Mar in Barcelona. The EPT Barcelona Open will begin September 10th at the Gran Casino Barcelona and play until September 14th.
