In a race situation, it is obvious that a large element will focus on going fast. To only consider this aspect of the race is to overlook a key factor in any motorsport however. Sometimes, it is not the car or driver that can go the fastest that will be the winner but the one who is best able to control the pace and style of how they brake. There will be countless situations during a race where a car will have to slow down in order to corner or avoid collision and therefore, being able to react to this whilst maintaining control and being able to accelerate quickly is a huge factor in any race. Also, there is a huge need for the brakes to be able to respond quickly and strongly because of the speeds the cars will be driving at on the track. This means that for any vehicle which regularly takes part in a race, racing brakes are a hugely important factor to consider.

The best quality racing brakes will ensure that dirt or grit is not able to affect the brake or pads and alter the friction that is provided by the braking element. Anything which lessons the impact of the brake can make it difficult for the driver to gauge the amount of brake that they will require, which means that the best form of brakes one that will be able to provide a consistent level of power. There are many different types of braking systems which are able to eliminate a great number of the external elements that can affect the braking system and change the friction between the brake and the wheel. Depending on the type of condition that the race is taking part in, the surface may cause a lot more dirt or mud to be come into contact with the braking system and this means it is more difficult to create a clean braking system and ensure that the stopping power is being used to bring the car to a halt or to slow it down sufficiently.

This means that the type of surface you race on will have a huge impact on what type of braking system is right for you. Before you purchase racing brakes it is important to consider the race conditions. If you are going to be driving on various race conditions then a more general product will be required but if the surface is likely to be the same over the course of a race or the course of a season, finding a specialist product for your needs is a worthwhile purchase. For instance, if the track is expected to be extremely heavy, a slotted form of racing brakes may provide greater benefit as this will allow more of the dirt and grit to filter away from the brake, ensuring more of the power goes to slowing the car down at the right moments in the race.

It may not be the first thing that people think of when they look to kit their car out for racing conditions but ensuring that racing brakes are available and ready for your needs could make all the difference between winning and losing for all concerned.
