Identity theft is unquestionably on the rise. We do not want to believe that it is, but the unpleasant truth is that we're going to have to be more mindful of everything that we do. You shouldn't believe for a minute that it won't occur to you. Every one who's ever suffered from identity theft in all probability once believed the same exact thing. Unfortunately, you can never be too cautious this day and age.

With all this being said, you need to learn how to secure your identity. Here are a a couple of Hints:

1. Beware of strange people standing close to you or right behind you when using an ATM machine. Some people will even record you with a camera phone! These types of people are often referred to as "shoulder surfers" & "skimmers". You should always be on the lookout for them and cover the screen as best you can from them.

2. Don't carry your SS card or birth certificate on you. Unless you know you'll be needing it, leave it at home. If a thief steals the card, they will use your SSI # to begin a brand-new life.

3. Always run old bills, financial papers, credit card information, etc. that you dont need any more through your paper shredder machine. Dont ever toss anything like that in the garbage. Instead, you should wholly destroy it.

4. Destroy your PC before tossing it out. Deleting info and wiping off data is never sufficient. You must physically get rid of the disk drive and demolish it with a sledgehammer before throwing it away.

5. Don't ever give out any of your financial info on-line unless you're you are certain that the web site is secure and safe. Read reviews about a web site before buying anything from it.

Make sure that you always follow these Hints so that you can decrease your odds of being a victim of identity theft. While there aren't any guarantees this day and age, you can still be safety conscious nonetheless.
