The youth of today are turning more and more towards the magnetic lure of recreational drugs. Teenagers live with dreams in their eyes and perceive the whole world according to their fascinations. This makes them turn away from the practical side of life, which is often not rosy and filled with problems which they must solve in order to get ahead in life. Once a person is addicted to drugs, it requires sustained efforts on the part of the addict and his or her family to help them to come out of the addiction through the long process of rehabilitation.

One of the most popular rehab treatments for people addicted to drugs is the well acclaimed twelve step treatment. The first point in this program is to get the addict to admit the fact that he or she is indulging in a practice that can lead to a great deal of health concerns in later life. This is where the role of family and the counselors comes into being. They can help by accompanying the addict to group meetings where the other reformed addicts share their experience. There is no one to judge the proceedings, it is just a group of people getting together to share experiences and learn from others.

The next steps in the 12 step rehab treatment are the recognition of the existence of a higher power that has the capacity to govern life and to turn ourselves under the influence of this higher power for coming out of the drug addiction. This is not very difficult for religious people as they believe in the power of God to guide them to a good life.

Now begins the actual work where the individual who has been addicted to drugs looks into the specific triggers that lead him or her to try out the drugs for the first time. Once the triggers have been identified, the 12 step drug rehab program requires that the addict on the reformation path share the reason for their wrongs to God and get going on the path of rehabilitation. The logical progression of this action takes us to the next point in the 12 step program, in which the addict on the path of reform has to make a list of the persons they have wronged and try to make amends with them (if possible directly). This is to induce the addicts to get the forgiveness of their loved ones and move ahead with a new beginning in life.

Now that the immediate process of rehabilitation is under way, it is time to get the former addict to travel well ahead in the path of reformation by finding a spiritual link to God through prayer and meditation. Once the former drug addict has secure the inner peace and confidence to integrate with the society, it is time to give back to the people and the support groups who helped them out in their time of need and this is the final point in the unique and hugely successful 12 point drug rehab program.
